LIVE Show 9-29-08 – Tech and Econ

This weeks LIVE Show we look for ways that Technology can help our Economic woes. It’s more of a Brainstorm session. Sometimes you need to just get a good idea that can fuel everyones passions. While we didn’t come up with the next miracle item, we hopefully put an understanding into what can be done to help ourselves. Time to not rely on someone else and take control. Hopefully.

Geek Kon 08 – Thoughts

I didn’t get a good chance to spend time at Geek Kon this year due to the schedule. That’s why I put down thoughts rather than a review. What I did make of it was pretty good. Lots of die-hards attended and most in costume. The event brings Sci-Fi enthusiasts, gaming pros and guild members together. There were many different events going on within the 2 buildings of the University. Discussions from local stars gone global – Luke Sienkowski (The Great Luke SKi), Matt Sloan and Aaron Yonda (Chad Vader) and a lot more.

Wireless Rats – Bitstrips

All this week we’ve been installing WiFi in an establishment. Sometimes it’s an easy task, other times it takes a little work to get things done. So in honor of all the work, this week’s strip is dedicated to this weeks job.

To protect their money, they could make it harder for Businesses to get loans.

A Look at Android SDK 1.0

I downloaded the SDK (Software Development Kit) the other day to play with Android. Although it’s not an HTC G1, it will definitely give me an idea of what to expect. I am hoping it will go on an older phone. We’ll see.

The auction got up to $10 Million before Ebay officials took it down. All this and a lot more in The Podcast.

CompUSA – 6 Months Later 0

CompUSA – 6 Months Later

I passed by the old Comp USA store in the area yesterday. It looked so lonely. The other shops in the mall were bustling – the Party City next door was getting ready for Halloween and the Target was doing it’s normal influx of customers. It would have been nice to see Tiger Direct purchase this outlet, alas they didn’t and therefore there is a big “For Lease” sign on it. I am intrigued as to why the sign is still up. Maybe there is still a lease on the space from CompUSA? Maybe Tiger Direct is getting some free advertising off of this? After all, it does overlook a main traffic vein of the west side. I started remembering the rise and fall of the store. I also remember what I was able to get here. I had a CompUSA Wireless B router at one time. I...

Ramblings – 8-20-08 – The Switch to PowerPress

Today was suppose to be a relaxing day. I was going to catch up on work and get items ready for next week. I ran into an article on security which I decided to read. In the article, they suggested to convert my tables from wp_ to something else. I thought that would be a pretty straightforward process. I backed up my MySQL database, then changed the SQL to the new prefix. I Imported those tables straight into the same database – basically it doubled the size of the table, but I had a safeguard to go back to.

Ye all need to talk like a pirate e’ry now and then. When I woke up this morning, I said “Yar! I need to write a Shanty”. So I did. Since my main Guitar is in the shop, I picked up the practice guitar and strummed out the song. A quick recording and mixing and Voila! A new song is born. Here are the Lyrics if you want to sing along.

Microsoft Ads – Poll 0

Microsoft Ads – Poll

Microsoft is making the shift from the Seinfeld – Gates ads to something a little different. Bottom line is Microsoft is creating an Ad campain to let people know that Vista is the way to go. But is it really – would you be better off with a Mac? The “Real Life PC” will be part of the new ads. Microsoft will ad emails on the screen, including Bill Gates (which I already sent one off). The idea is to have the stellar ad that will change the masses ideals. [poll=19] Does a computer ad sway you? Will the new Microsoft ads change your thinking? Of course we did a parody last week of the Seinfeld Ads. We poked fun at it. Ads can change the way someone looks at a product. Unfortunately, most people see the ads and it actually sways their decision. Then again, they just...

The Force Unleashed: Bitstrips

It’s kinda cool to be able to play a game I can really get into. Since I don’t game that much I really need a lot to try something. For far this game is pretty cool – but don’t worry. I’ve only spent about 3 to 4 hours on the game. This weeks Bitstrips gives me my wish: the ability to master the skills of the dark side. I thought about the Jedi, but they’re so sterile sometimes. I could master the art then get rid of the master. Then I would rule the world. Ah heck. Who am I kidding. I would most likely be C3P0.

History of Apple: Goodbye Steve Jobs, Hello Steve Jobs. 0

History of Apple: Goodbye Steve Jobs, Hello Steve Jobs.

It’s interesting to see the irony in life. You win, you lose. It’s like rain on your wedding day…. Steve Jobs was seeing a bit of resistance from Apple in 1985. By May, Steve was in an internal struggle for CEO against John Sculley. Ultimately, Apple agreed and Steve stepped down as CEO of the Apple Mac division. 4 months later, Steve decided to leave Apple to start NeXt – a new computer company. The NeXt OS was released in 1989 and the NeXtstation and NeXtCube in 1990. Jobs built it into a decent powerhouse while Apple continued to struggle. Ultimately in 1997, NeXt was purchased by Apple for $429 million. They got not only the NeXtSTEP Operating System, but they also got Steve Jobs as a consultant. However, this came to Steve Job’s advantage as in July 1997. CEO Gil Amelio was ousted and Steve Jobs took...

I still had to work, so the end result is only a half finished show. I have been asking the question if I should take this show to a daily flavor, so we are going to try a different format. This week only, we’re doing 2 parts to the Quickcast TWITH. The first part will be today and the second half will be sent out on Wednesday or Thursday. We still plan to do a 1 topic 5 minute segment, so you will most likely have more great podcasts to listen to.
