Gary Vaynerchuck: The Thank You Economy Book Tour 4-26-11

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSI took a trip down to Milwaukee, Wi with my fellow MadisonSMC members Wendy, Brian and Marvic to meet Gary Vaynerchuck. He was promoting his new book – the Thank You Economy. We went down for the Tweet-up, then to listen to him speak. The group got there at around 4:30 pm where we met up with Chad Schomber and Katie Felten among other new faces to me. They all were tweetin, standing in line waiting to get their book signed. We went from the Tweetup to AJ Bombers for a couple award winning burgers. After, we headed over to Boswell Book Company to listen to Gary talk about the book and his experiences. It was a pretty insightful night. I really enjoyed how Gary discussed the current campaigns and how they are not pushing specials or free merchandise. One instance, they gave away something to a twitter follower that...

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSThe second half of the Social Media House – Madison had Lance Ratze on stage. Lance is from Yola’s Cafe, a coffee shop on the west side of Madison (and the third one in that location). The location was great, but since this is the third shop to dawn the storefront, how do you get customers in? Lance talks about his experience with programs like Groupon and the new Google Places. He goes over how his Facebook advertising has helped the store grow. Even the personal touch – MC Wendy Soucie talked about how Lance has made her visits more personable. He talks about making the experience personal and not being a “bot” on your Twitter or Facebook. Don’t worry about getting lots of followers, just the ones that give or bring you business. Unboxing: Lenovo ThinkCentre M90z 0

Unboxing: Lenovo ThinkCentre M90z

I received the Lenovo ThinkCentre M90z I will be Giving away (in a future contest) today. Unboxed and set up this new computer. Of course, when I set up a computer, I do it a little different. First, let’s look at the computer itself: We have a 23″ inch computer monitor with 2 point touch screen. Open up the back and you can see the computer – complete with DVD+/- RW, sound, 6 USB ports, VGA in, power and more. The back panel can be opened pretty easily by pulling the two arrowed tabs on the bottom and lifting up. What is interesting, is if you look at one of the photos, there is a spot to put in a card reader. If you get a computer like this, you want more than just USB ports. Another thing missing is a eSATA port for off-computer storage. The computer...

The Roku Goes Local: Channel 3000 on OTT 0

The Roku Goes Local: Channel 3000 on OTT

Channel3000.com launched their new Roku Channel on Thursday. This is the first local news station on a Set Top Box. You can catch the local news, weather, sports and original programming of Channel 3 in Madison, WI. Being a Madisonian, I am really proud of this achievement. This local CBS affiliate has been thinking outside the box for a while. Planning for the next generation of television. When most stations were launching their call letters for domains, WISC-TV chose to think bigger. Channel3000.com was a Madison portal, but also a portal for Wisconsin. They were also the first TV station in Wisconsin to go HD. With original programming like Sidelines (sport talk), Urban Theater (local music) and Madison Magazine, they have been the most innovative channel in Wisconsin. With another great leap into Over the Top Television in the Roku channel, Channel 3000 is continuing the trek into...

Autism App for iPad under Development 1

Autism App for iPad under Development

I’ve been really deep into geek and haven’t had the time to post here the past week. I’ve resurrect my old P3, threw a third hard drive into it, installed CentOS, and am working on making it dual boot with the existing Slackware system. But this report from one my local televisions stations caught my eye: A local father with an autistic son is developing a iPad app for use in reaching and teaching autistic children; he got the idea from observing his son’s fascination with the Angry Birds game: Joe Hill’s autism app idea is not the first, but here’s what makes it unique: – His concept for interactive flash cards using the camera on thie iPad 2. – Parents can take pictures of people, toys, juice, anything specific to an individual child. – When the child touches the screen a voice will say the word and...
