LG Optimus G (Sprint) – Quad-Core Android with 32 GB Storage [Review]

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSAbout a month ago I got to use the LG Optimus G on the Sprint network. Optimus G is a newer Android phone that has power and storage to rival the future designs of the smartphone. A phone with enough power to not only get work done or the ability to do two things at once but the battery power to stay functional for the day. The Good – LG Optimus G Let’s start with the processor – a 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor. This processor will let you not only record video and pull up your favorite apps but will also allow you to do two things at once. Send a text while a video plays – Email someone while you are in mid-game – then come back to where you were. You can even record a video and snap...

What to Expect from BlackBerry 10 0

What to Expect from BlackBerry 10

Image source Flickr With 2013 around the corner, one of the greatest things to expect out of the coming holiday season is the impressive number of smartphones available to consumers all over the world. From the iPhone 5 to Android’s new JellyBean OS and beyond, if there’s one thing consumers and business people alike won’t have to worry about, it’s the number of options they have to choose for a new mobile phone. With all these options though, it’s surprising that there is not as much talk of Research in Motion’s latest forthcoming innovation: BlackBerry 10.   Image Source Brownstock  While Android and iOS continue to make appearances in dozens of phones, all in which appear very confusing to developers in their options and features, RIM plans to release BlackBerry 10 following the mad holiday season in favor of introducing innovations without fighting the mob of Android and...

First Look: HP X576DW Officejet Pro MFP

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSIf you are a small-to-medium business (SMB) you try to find items for your office that don’t cost you an arm and a leg. It seems printing (especially color printing) is always a problem for cost and ease of use. HP has been looking into this problem and come out with the X series multi-function printer (MFP). The officejet pro x576dw MFP is a desktop printer that can print up to 70 pages per minute in general office mode. The printer prints a 4 ink system (Yellow,Cyan, Magenta and black) with color matching when one inkwell is empty. The ink is expected to have a long shelf life and the ink head system is completely changed to avoid clotting and clumping. HP Product manager Larry Tracy stepped us through the Officejet printer and all its inner-workings. The printer has a roller...

5 Years of Geekazine.com – The Good, Bad and the Future

Do you remember what you were doing 5 years ago today? I do. I started this website. -Jeffrey Powers, Geekazine.com It was this day in 2007 where I hit the button and started Geekazine.com. The podcast was already running (as I started it a month prior). I launched the website and did the podcast for the day. I felt it was a great launch and an exciting time for me and Geekazine. Then I got laid off from my job. It was literally the day before launch that I was called into a room and told my services were no longer welcome. I was also sick during the launch and the audio was not going my way. I took the negative focus and put it in positive articles on Geekazine. Adding the Focus section and the video (pic 1*) which I talked about tech how-to. I also started...

Record Shows on your PC with Hauppauge Win-TV DCR-2650

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSI have been very busy these last few weeks and have missed a lot of TV. In the past, I would have just shrugged it off and possibly caught it through On-Demand or HuluPlus. Before I left, I set up a Hauppauge Win-TV DCR-2650 to a Windows PC running Windows Media Center and recorded all my favorite shows. About the Hauppauge DCR-2650 Win-TV device The Hauppauge is a unit that connects your cable to a machine running Windows 7 and Media Center. The unit requires an M-Card, which is a card you can get from your cable company (for a rental fee). The DCR-2650 features a dual tuner mode so you can record one show and watch another. Simply connect your coaxial cable to the DCR-2650 unit. Connect the USB cable to the computer and install the driver software. You will...

iPhone 5 Unboxing – Comparison to Nokia Lumia, HTC, 3GS

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSI got the new iPhone this morning, so I went on a Google Hangout to show it off. I grabbed my previous smartphones to make comparison – the HTC 8125 (my first smartphone), the iPhone 3GS and Nokia Lumia 900 (which I had over the summer). I compare how I used the smartphone then and now. Unboxing the iPhone5 I first unbox the iPhone 5, then compare to the older phones. This one is longer and thinner than the HTC, but compared in thinness to the iPhone 3GS and Nokia Lumia. Pretty interesting. The phone is comparably lighter than all 3. Accessories to the iPhone 5 The iPhone 5 comes with the new style earbuds and Lightning charger cable. I didn’t get any extra cables or converters. Overall of the iPhone 5 I will definitely be putting it to the task....

Full Interview: Mark Zuckerberg, Michael Arrington

While at TechCrunch Disrupt, I got the opportunity to watch the fireside chat with founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg and CrunchFund founder Michael Arrington. This is the first time Zuckerberg has spoken since Facebook went public (so when Facebook went public, Facebook went private). I have taken a few key moments out of the video for you. In Hindsight Would You Do Anything? We are going to do things we think to build value over the longterm. Over the next 3-5 years the biggest question on everyone’s minds is how well we do on mobile. We’ve been in this quiet period for the last 6 months since right up to we started the IPO. A lot of stuff has changed. 6 months ago on mobile, we launched our new set of apps, so we were still in a pretty bad place. Apple hadn’t announce the iOS integration and...

Winners of TechCrunch Disrupt SF 2012 Hackathon: LiveBolt

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSNot only are the guys from LiveBolt people I know, they’re also from my hometown of Madison, WI. Known as “Snowshoe” the guys re-developed their check-in fab idea to become a virtual key for a door. This could be a system to let someone in the house, or maybe a hotel key system. The authorized smartphone would load an app, then place it on the dongle at the door. This would cause the door to authorize and unlock. LiveBolt was part of the new hardware addition they created for this year’s hackathon. Many different hardware vendors presented today, including one that poured margaritas when you asked Siri to. It was a great time with over 150 hacks presenting every 60 seconds. Lots of new hackers that could turn their ideas into companies. Congrats to the runners up: Auctopus and Heatdata.

TechCrunch Disrupt 2012 Hackathon

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSThis year I got to spend time with the hackers at the TechCrunch Disrupt 2012 hackathon. Hundreds of coders got together – some didn’t even know each other until this afternoon – to make the next big program. I got to talk to a lot of great start ups. This includes Snowshoe, a company that comes from Madison, WI (my hometown). I know about their product and was really excited to hear they are pitching tomorrow in the hackathon. Another group of coders were making a system to replace those discs you get at a restaurant with an app on your smartphone. When your table is ready, you get a signal to come up to the front counter. There was even a group that was using margaritas for a drinking game. It was a very fun time and I got to...
