First Look with Seth Leitman on the BMW i8

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSThe BMW i8 is a remarkable sports car. The car is a plug-in hybrid that debuted in 2013 at the NAIAS in Detroit. I was there with Green Living Guy Seth Leithman looking over the car. We geeked out over the design and charge-ability. The prototype only had a fuel efficiency of less than 2.5 L/100 km. But it’s real feature was the aluminum frame with carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). Since then, the BMW i8 has gone through some great upgrades. The 2015 i8 holds a 7.1 kWh lithium-ion battery for 76 mpg and up to 330 miles total. Of course, you can get there pretty fast, as the i8 goes from 0-60 in 4.2 seconds. The striking exterior is an added feature to it’s EfficientDynamic ventilation technology. The BMW i8 will reduce coefficient of drag to improve overall aerodynamics. At the end of...

Ford Fusion Hybrid Driver Assist Car Project

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSFord unveiled a new project to help make driving safer; a part of Ford’s Blueprint for Mobility project. The Ford Fusion Hybrid Driver Assist Car Project is not a driverless car but more of a pre-emptive option so everyone can stay safe. The Ford concept car is not going to be out on the road anytime soon and definitely will not have any weird-looking spinning cameras on the roof. When the technology is ready (10-20 years), the car will 3D model its surroundings so it can watch for any anomalies — a child running to get a ball, a deer coming out of the woods, or the car in front of the other that had to stop abruptly. The Ford driver assist will then spring into action by applying the brakes before you can. Ford partnered with the University of Michigan and State...

The 2014 Mustang V6 has an all leather interior and seats four. It has a good distance of wheelbase (107″ x 81″) so it handles really well. I even tested the vented four-wheel disc brakes on the road and it stopped like a champ. This drive also was recorded via Google Glass. This is the full recording from Glass. Of course, there are many models of Windows Phone, including the Nokia Lumina 900. Chris talks about how SYNC works with all phones – including that old flip phone you might still have. You could be on your phone before you get in your car. As soon as you turn on the car, it transfers the call to the car. You never have to pair it more than once. If your wife has a phone, you can pair a bunch of phones, you can have your favorite, but if they get in the car, they should be able to use it themselves. Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSLast week I visited the Henry Ford Museum. I posted this up on Day in Tech History, (Read the post here). We look at some of the vehicles we drove in the 20th century, some of the generators used at the turn of the century, and tractors that changed the way we farmed. It was a fun trip, and I only got to see a small fraction of the entire museum.
