Lume Cube is complete with 1,500 Lumens for Well Lit Photos, Video

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSI am starting to use my mobile devices to get more exclusive video. Along with some simple hardware, I can shoot expo floor interviews at 60 fps without having a big camera at my side. But one problem has always been lighting. That is going to change as well with the Lume Cube app controlled light. Lume Cube is a waterproof light that can be mounted to a camera, or set to the side for the right type of lighting of your photo or video. You can add it to a DSLR Camera or GoPro and get better video in low light environments. The cube is only 1 1/2 inches in size so you can throw it into any bag. The device puts out 1,500 Lumens – at least 15x stronger than the flash from an iPhone. It can also strobe...

Tip Your Favorite Band any Time with TipCow

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSAs a band member, I know how hard it is to not only get what you are worth, but also promote with a tip jar. Even as a patron, I never get to the front of stage to throw a couple dollars in to support the music. Now, with TipCow, I can do it all from my phone and don’t even need to be at the show. Sitting down with Chris Bush (CEO of TipCow) at SXSW I found how they are different than any crowdfunding project out there. They vet and curate the artists on TipCow. That way someone else doesn’t claim to be your band and take money from your pocket. You must also be able to prove who you are or else they will not add you to the service. Tips can be outright, or parts of specials....

Tech Set Comcast Social Media Lounge for SXSW 2016

Best Resource of SXSW Interactive: Comcast Tech Set Social Media Lounge

I have been going to SXSW Interactive for the last 5 years. It continues to be a great resource for people like me who don’t live in San Francisco or Austin for tech. Every year I have felt welcomed by one area in the convention center. The TechSet Social Media Lounge. This year, it was nothing but awesome! Nestled on 4th floor, the TechSet Social Media Lounge has everything I need to keep sane during the week. This year, Comcast sponsored the lounge to a large group of weary social media people and artists that don’t have access to press lounges like I do. In fact, I choose this lounge over the press one because of what TechSet and Comcast have to offer. Run by Stephanie Agresta and Brian Solis, this media lounge had everything you would need to refresh, recharge, and go. Heck, there were times you...

Mackie Reach Personal PA, Pro DX Mixing Console

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSI was impressed by Mackie and their lineup of products this year at NAMM. Two in particular for the acoustic artist with the Reach and home recording/podcasting in the Pro DX. Both products give you the ability to setup and play within minutes. Mackie Reach Professional PA The Mackie Reach is an all-in-one PA system for a solo artist or band, karaoke system, boardroom or wherever you need to project the sound. The Reach contains a 4 channel mixer, speaker system with advanced ARC (Amplified Radial Curve) and Ear Shot personal monitors on the sides. If you are a duo, you might put the Reach in-between the performers. The Ear Shot monitors are set on both sides so the artists can hear the music. You can also link Reach systems together if you have it set up conventionally on the sides....

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSWhether you are playing an MP3 or listening to your vinyl, you want the best experience from your sound system and even your headphones. That is why Blue Headphones created a line of comfortable earwear. Last year they introduced Mo-Fi, changing the look and design of the conventional over-the-ear headset. This year is Lola with the same functionality but without the in-headset amplifier. The best part about Lola is the construction – allowing for the ear cups to create a seal around your ears. This is not only perfect for listening to music, but also for gaming, creating music, and much more. Inside Lola is a 50 mm fiber-reinforced dynamic driver. This allows for a crisp frequency response of 15 Hz to 20 kHz. Perfect for any binaural recordings you might want to listen to. I got a chance to talk...

Revolutionary Gittler Instruments Introduces B4F Bass

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSMade of Titanium, the Gittler Guitar is a lot different than any other out there. Not only does it look wild, it’s also very interesting to play. Yet I get the chance to noodle on this guitar and check out the new B4U Bass. The Gittler Guitar has been around since 2013. These guitars are all titanium and move away from a traditional guitar. For example, there is no conventional fretboard, so you can do more with your guitar such as push to bend notes more. I was making a full vibrato strumming chords. The guitar was created by Allan Gittler, a musical visionary who tried to dispel common misconceptions of guitars. The biggest hurdle to overcome – making a guitar that doesn’t look like one. The Gittler guitar is made of abrasion resistant Titanium. LED lights up key frets like...

StompLight brings out Quick and Powerful Lighting Scenes

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSI play acoustic solo shows. Even with the band we sometimes get stuffed in a corner by the dart board and the only lighting I have is the ones I bring. That is where StompLight can help as it’s a personal lighting effects pedal for me and my band. The StompLight Lighting Effects Pedal is a non-DMX controlled pedal that can put put into your guitar effects board or simply placed on the floor. A 3 button, 2 knob pedal will allow you to turn on and off the lights, set the color and even set the mode from a single color to strobe, fading and more. The built-in microphone allows the pedal to listen and react to the music. You can even plug it into your sound so the StompLight only reacts to what you play or sing. Adjust the sensativity...

Always Keep Tabs on Your Guitar with TaylorSense Smart Battery

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSAcoustic guitars can be very temperamental. You need to make sure the humidity is right or it will crack. Of course, any bangs to the guitar can also affect the sound. That is why Taylor Guitars created TaylorSense. The TaylorSense Battery Pack turns any Taylor acoustic guitar into a smart guitar. Simply replace the 9-volt battery pack with the TaylorSense. Then download the app (when available) to connect your guitar with the phone. The app will not only monitor your guitar’s vitals, it will also help you tune and even record your guitar tracks. The app will be available for everyone to download, with the recorder and tuner available for all to use. HP Announcements from VMWorld 2015 San Francisco

This week I have been asked to live-stream from the HP booth at VMWorld. New announcements from HP regarding virtualization, thin clients, storage, and more. Virtualization is a key component in today’s workforce. From being able to access everything you need via the Internet ( mainly a corporate cloud), to giving you a machine that will protect the corporate data if stolen or poached. Even being able to deliver large amounts of data without having to restart because one small piece got lost. Streaming from the HP booth started on Monday, but the main streaming will happen this Tuesday at 2 PM PST (5 PM EST). 15 minute sessions from each area of HP will commence. You can watch it all here on Geekazine below. Feel free to watch the sessions already recorded.

Coffee Talk with Manish Goel of HP Storage – HP Discover

Earlier this year, HP Storage hired a new Senior Vice President in Manish Goel (NetApp) after David Scott (who came over from the 3PAR acquisition) retired last year. Manish sat down with the top Enterprise bloggers who wanted to ask the hard questions as to the new direction of HP Storage. Of course, Goel had some pretty big shoes to fill, and the bloggers wanted to know what his direction is for storage. Along with Siamak Nazari, Brad Parks, and Ivan Iannaccone, the group answered questions about infrastructure and hardware technology, storage management, and the direction of 3PAR. One hot topic in the coffee talk was the direction of flash and flash-array storage. As 1-out-of-3 arrays are all-flash, the bloggers were really interested in Manish’s vision. Following is the full video for this coffee talk. Note that the first 15 minutes we had wireless interference, so you might...

HP Z1 G2 All-In-One Workstations for Powerful Editing

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSWhile at NAB 2015, I checked out the powerful Z desktops and the Z1 G2 All-in-one workstation. This is a 27-inch touchscreen all-in-one. Inside is an Intel – i3,i5, i7 or Xeon E3 processor – DDR3 non-ECC RAM at 1866 MHz, Intel or NVidia graphics and more. The HP Z1 G2 is easy to open to fix or replace parts. Simply slide it down, and open the top up from the latches in the front. The hydraulic arms keep the unit from crashing down. Green tabs show you where you unlock-and-pull to take out hard drives, memory, fans, and more. Other features include an internal USB for wireless mice or any special dongles that need to be locked up. Speaking of locks, a Kensington lock option not only keeps the workstation on the desk, but also prevents unauthorized users from opening...

Knotable Organizes Email for Collaboration – Disrupt 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSWe all get the email threads: Someone gets praise or lands a new job and 50 replies of “Congratulations!” follow in the email. What if you were to export that thread to an area where people can collaborate and clean up the posts? That is what Knotable is all about. Created for those in email groups that need to collaborate better, Knotable (pr. note-able) will take over the thread, clear out the repetitive nonsense and previous replies, then set your post into the queue. Others can then vote it up and down or it can even get removed if a post is not accepted. The idea is to move the important parts to the top. In video collaboration (for example) you can have the popular remarks toward the top so the final product includes those. It also avoids two people asking...

AirSig Password Wallet: Write in the Air to Authenticate, Open apps

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSWhen I pull out my phone I have to run the unlock code, find the app I want and open it up. AirSig has a better idea – Press a button and write Facebook in the air to open Facebook up. Air signature to even unlock the phone. Stating that everyone has a different writing style, AirSign uses the accelerometer to map out your writing style. After all – you sign your name different than others do. If the phone recognizes your signature then it can open up. Here is how it works – the user holds the phone similar to a pen. They push a button and air-write their name to unlock the phone. Different commands could open different apps. If you write Twitter in the air it will open up the social network. I got to see how it...

Acoustic Stream is a Bluetooth Wireless Guitar and Microphone

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSImagine a device that can send your guitar signal and vocals to the amp, then give you a wireless in-ear. That is what Acoustic Stream is all about. Acoustic or electric guitar – Acoustic stream could be the bluetooth wireless alternative. Backed as a Kickstarter, Acoustic Stream was able to raise the money to continue development to this device. The Bluetooth dongle pairs with an iOS or Android device to turn into a recording unit, tuner, or push the signal to an amplifier. Best part is you don’t need a pickup on the guitar – the Acoustic Stream will become that pickup. I talked with Bob Bean – creator of the device. He has been working on this project and plans to turn this into your 4-in-1 wireless device. That means you will be able to also connect a microphone and...

Deja Lets You Turn Your Face Into Personal Emoji – TCDisrupt 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSNormally when I send a text I get a smiley face or a kitten frown from someone. Imagine if those Emoji would be of your face. That is what Deja is all about – turning your face into its own Emoji. With Deja you simply download the app, take a picture, align the facial features, then let the app do the work. It creates different icons for happy, sad, angry, confused, and other Emojis. Deja is available for iPhone, Android, Symbain, J2me, and even Blackberry devices. An API is available for companies to add those personalized icons in their app. Otherwise, use Deja’ chat to display your pictures. The app is free. SunOyster Systems brings Concentrated Solar Power – Disrupt 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSThe biggest issue with solar power is those large panels you have to place on the house to get enough power to be worth it. Concentrated solar could help and SunOyster Systems is working on doubling the power in less time. Using a reflexive surface the light concentrates to efficiently consume the cell. The setup of the system looks a lot different than a solar panel. Curved reflective surfaces point to the cell in a way it doesn’t reflect back (like to a pilot passing overhead) and can capture as much as possible. The device we saw at the show was a scale model. Dr. Carsten Corino informs me the system could be only a few meters in size and – even in winter – power the house for the day. The solar tracking system keeps in-line with the sun for...

Mimi Smart Hearing Uses iPhone to Improve Hearing – Disrupt 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSEver been in a location where you cannot hear the other person because of the bounce of a room? MIMI has a solution – throw your headphones on and adjust the room sound so you can hear the other people. I personally have a hard time hearing female voices due to the fact I am a drummer. Even the noisy bustle sound at Disrupt and the quieter voice of Eva Maria Zoll made it tough to hear. The best part was I put my headphones on and ran the app – I was able to hear her voice better. The app brings you through a quick hearing test which can tell you where your loss is at. Switch over to the active part and adjust the levels so you can hear the conversation. MIMI is also working on a Bluetooth LE...

Voycee: Your History Free Social Network – Disrupt 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSThe easiest way to say it – it’s Snapchat for social networking. Voycee is an incognito social network. You create your post and send it. People read the post then it disappears into the night. I talked with Ilfan Radoncic of Voycee – suited up like the Men in Black – who showed me the network. He states there are certain celebrities and sports stars that want to post something and not have it blow up on social networks. With Voycee, there is no timeline, no archived posts. Nothing to say that post existed. You can say something that people can read in the moment and then let it go in the wind. Voycee is available now for iOS with an Android app coming soon. Sign up, post away. Or DID you? For more information, head to Voycee.me or you can Download Voycee...

Red-EHS Dispenses Medication Through Vending Machines: TCDisrupt 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSWe all want a vending machine in our house. One that is functional and helps with day to day operation. RedEHS vending machine is different because not only will it dispense medication it can dispense remotely via app. Red-EHS is a tablet based system that manages the inventory of medical supplies. A nurse will open the app and check out medications for patients. A code is generated and sent to the machine either through Internet or Intranet. The code will in-turn be used to get the right medication to the patient. The app tracks the staff member and the patient who needs the medication for inventory and accountability. Because RedEHS works with Verizon, the nurse does not even need to be in the building to give a patient their meds. Currently Red-EHS are in living care facilities, correctional facilities, home health agencies,...

Parknav Helps You Find Places to Park – Disrupt 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSWhen we go downtown or even out to another city by car, we want to know there are parking spaces to acquire quickly and within range of the destinations we go. After all – travelling around a city trying to find the right parking can become a time and gas consuming event (not to mention non-environmental friendly). That is where parknav comes in – an app that will help you find the parking spot you need. The app works to map out where all the free and paid spots are so you can concentrate on finding a spot in that area. Currently, they cover Chicago, San Francisco, Munich, and Hannover. The app also has parking garages mapped as well. The app will plan your route to the area of choosing. It won’t reserve a spot – but you might find areas...
