As you get ready to leave the event, you are given an SD card with the festivities inside for you to consume again and again. That is what the Blackmagic Design Duplicator 4K does. While at NAB I talked with Kendall with Blackmagic Designs on the Duplicator 4K. You can copy up to 25 cards per rack mount at a time. You can also daisy-chain the units together to record more for larger events. Each unit can take a SD card and fill it with the event you recorded in multiple formats up to Ultra HD at 2160p 60fps. Each video is encoded in H.265 for smaller file sizes but also 4K resolution. Weddings, sporting events, live concerts, conferences and more can benefit from the Duplicator 4K. It can...

Sony Updates the 4K Handycam in FDR-AX53

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSI am an avid user of the Sony Handcam cameras. Last year Sony came out with their first 4K Handycam and they improved on it this year with the FDR-AX53 4K Handycam. I got to talk with Christine while I was at CES 2016 about the features to this new model. The AX53 Handycam added some new features from last year, including the newest in Carl Zeiss technology and a new Exmor R CMOS sensor. The ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T lens has a 26.8 mm wide angle with a focal length of 24-70 mm and an aperture range of f/2.8 – f/22. One of my favorite features is the Intelligent Active mode. A 5-axis stabilizer that reduces camera shake even while running. They had several cameras set up on shaking platforms and a stable shot on screen. The internal wireless feature allows...

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSIt’s been an awesome time here in Vegas – I’ve been covering a conference and during the down time I’ve been playing with this – the GoPro HERO4 Black edition. This is the newest GoPro camera for live action recording. You might have seen skydivers, skateboarders, custom car owners, and other groups create some awesome video and this little device is ususally taking the video. As you can see, its a little larger than a box of Tictacs – with the waterproof case you could easily fit it in your pocket ready for any life moment to happen. There are three buttons on the HERO4 – a power button, shutter button and settings button. Each button has multiple options so you can create video, take stills or continuous shots. The best part is the quality of the HERO4. This camera can...

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSSony showed off their new Alpha 7s (A7s) DSLR camera at NAB. This camera contains a 35mm sensor in it allowing for a lower resolution and pixels that can capture better even in low light situations. The camera is mirrorless. The a7scan adapt to become a full cinematic movie camera. What else do you need? The s stands for sensitivity. It supports an ISO range of 50 to 409,600. A down-scaled 4k (2,840×2,160) is achieved through this 12.2 megapixel sensor. You won’t be able to record 4K video directly on the camera but you will be able to make some great video in full 1080p with a XAVC S-format class 10 video card. And it’s still a camera, too. Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSMovies such as Frozen, How to Train Your Dragon 2, Mr. Peabody and Sherman, and upcoming Shrek – the Final Chapter all have either used or will be using this technology to make the color pop and the movies shine. All because of a computer monitor. I met up with Dan Bennet this year at NAB 2014. Dan knows his stuff when it comes with high-quality HP computers – like the Z1 G2 – and also HP’s monitors in the HP DreamColor Z27x and Z24x. We focused mainly on the Z27x because of everything it had to offer. The HP DreamColor Z27x features a 4k input support screen, 10 bit color, and an integrated calibration engine to color correct the screen when needed. Dan showed me two calibration devices that could be used and could be calibrated to multiple color formats....

Day 3 – 360 Heros, Live Streaming, Sony A7s – NAB 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSToday I took the long walk to upper south hall of NAB. I found the Intel innovation lounge with an interview theater made up of recliner seats. You could kick back and watch as new guests were interviewed by the crew. Wish I would have been able to kick back, but I had to get to work. I spent the morning learning about streaming media options. The first one was with a company called Streambox. They have an alternate streaming service for all broadcasters. You download the software (free) and send to their cloud. The plan works with the concurrent connections and bandwidth used for the stream. For $99, you can stream an hour of media for around 200-300 viewers. LiveU LiveU was at the show. I learned about their newest devices in the LU500, LU400 and streaming stick. The stick...
