Sony HandyCam HXR-NX30u Production Camera – NAB 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSI use the pro-sumer version of the Sony Handycam HXRNX30u in getting interviews for Geekazine. When I heard there was a broadcast level version, I was intrigued. Adding sound options and more made this the next camera on my list. The Sony Handcam HXR series came out in 2011. Their current version – the HXR-NX30u – brings high definition in a small footprint. Add the Optical SteadyShot image stabilization technology and you can be holding this in your hand and still get a pretty stable shot. This is because the camera eye moves to keep the shake from happening. Get the Sony HXR-NX30u at B&H For example, I have done some time-lapses in Las Vegas with an older camera. Whether you are in a building or on a bridge you know that after watching the footage there is some shaking or swaying that...

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSSony showed off their new Alpha 7s (A7s) DSLR camera at NAB. The a7scan adapt to become a full cinematic movie camera. What else do you need? The s stands for sensitivity. It supports an ISO range of 50 to 409,600. A down-scaled 4k (2,840×2,160) is achieved through this 12.2 megapixel sensor. You won’t be able to record 4K video directly on the camera but you will be able to make some great video in full 1080p with a XAVC S-format class 10 video card. And it’s still a camera, too. The camera can shoot at 5 fps. with shutter speeds up to 1/8000. The 35mm CMOS sensor can give you some great...

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSS*This is video 1 of a 2 part video While at NAB last year, I saw Mike running around the show with this device that turned multiple Go Pro Hero cameras into a 360 degree video of the show floor. This year Intel has invited 360Hero to come in and show people what they are doing to advance 360 video. I learned that 360Heros has been making multiple versions of the device. Just slip in the Go Pro Hero cameras and you can get a great view around your surroundings. This includes a view of the ground and sky. Their newer version of the 360Heros is called the 360 3D Video. Day 3 – 360 Heros, Live Streaming, Sony A7s – NAB 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSToday I took the long walk to upper south hall of NAB. I found the Intel innovation lounge with an interview theater made up of recliner seats. You could kick back and watch as new guests were interviewed by the crew. Wish I would have been able to kick back, but I had to get to work. I spent the morning learning about streaming media options. The first one was with a company called Streambox. They have an alternate streaming service for all broadcasters. You download the software (free) and send to their cloud. The plan works with the concurrent connections and bandwidth used for the stream. For $99, you can stream an hour of media for around 200-300 viewers. LiveU LiveU was at the show. I learned about their newest devices in the LU500, LU400 and streaming stick. The stick...

Sony Cybershot DSC QX10 Smartphone Add-On Camera – SXSW 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSWhile at SXSW, I got to try the Sony Cybershot DSC QX10 camera. This is the camera that wirelessly connects to the smartphone and takes over the camera. The 18 megapixel camera can bring higher quality photos into your camera. The add-on lens is one of 2 in the Sony line (QX100 being the higher-end version). The advantages of this camera are you can use your smartphone to capture, then upload photos using the 3G/4G service. You can also disconnect the lens to hold up high while you watch the viewfinder to take the pictures. Finally, the optical zoom of 10x lets you get close-up shots of about 20 feet away. The disadvantages are this lens needs to be charged to use, although you can switch out battery packs for continued photos. The other downfall is how the lens weighs down...
