Vint Cerf Talks People Centered Internet

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSYou may or may not like your Internet speed right now, but in some areas, Internet is non-existant. We’re not talking 3rd World countries, either. There are many areas in the U.S. that also go with little to no signal for children trying to learn and grow. That is why Vint Cerf helped create the People Centered Internet. I got to sit and talk with Vint at the IEEE Tech for Humanity Series at SXSW in Austin, TX about where we are in this initiative. Who is Vint Cerf? Recognized as a founding father of the Internet, Vinton Gray Cerf was best known as co-inventor of the TCP/IP with his team at DARPA. Cerf then moved to MCI to help launch the first commercial email system – called MCI Mail. Vinton continued on, helping develop ICANN. He currently sits on multiple technology boards...

For the most part it was successful, with a small audio glitch at the beginning. Glitch only happened for a few seconds, so I left it in the video part. Audio was cut. Panasonic created a device that can turn your body into a data transmission device. You can then send information to others, or to devices with a touch. We’ll look more at this. I also talk about week one of Bell’s Palsy – watch the First 48 Hours of Bell’s Palsy video I posted. Finally, the show will be off the next couple weeks as I am on travel. Google Hangouts, Photos and the Direction of Google Plus

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSGoogle has separated Hangouts from Google+ and is planning to do the same with photos. Will YouTube be the next in this Exodus? Where does this leave the social Network Google+? In June of 2011, Vic Gundotra and crew debuted Google+ and the Google Hangout. A video conference service for up to 10 people to “Hang Out”. As a beta user and original Hangout member, we used to spend a lot of late night hours bouncing from one hangout to another. Since then, the Hangout feature has vastly improved. They switched to their own VP8 codec, giving an HD quality to the service. Bringing in an open API, many have built some great apps around the video service such as lower 3rds, cameraman, and more. Google has also changed the way Hangouts initiates. They created an IM environment which takes over the...

Apple Beats: What is Tim Cook-ing up at Apple?

Subscribe: iTunes | Android | RSS Last week I was in New York for TechCrunch Disrupt. I got some great videos and tons of awesome footage of Times Square. However, when I returned my back decided to rebel from carrying 40 lbs throughout the city. Its been a tough weekend of recouping. Before the back siezed up I was able to hit some Friday garage sales with my brother. We hit an ultimate score – 2 totes full of in-box Spawn and Star Wars figures. We got it for a deal and are figuring out the next steps. If anyone wants to buy some, let me know. Last night’s TWIGG had a lot of great news. The Glass teardown found the device cost $150 to make – $200-250 with software and R&D. We had to ask why Glass was still $1,500. HP sent me 2 new devices which...

I Went to New York with Google Glass. No One Hates Them Here…

You might have heard the hate issues associated with Google Glass. Well I would like to tell you my story of how someone either put me down or caused physical violence – but I can’t. And I went to one of the most populated areas in the world. I thought for sure with my recent trip to New York I would get a hater, an accausting of, or at least a “can you please take those off?” Yet all I got was the same questions people in my city would ask. When I arrived in NYC (and after attending part of a conference I was there for) I stopped into 5 Napkins restaurant. Located at 690 9th street in Hell’s Kitchen, this is one place I highly recommend you have a burger at. I arrived at the restaurant and the first person to notice Glass was the host...

Source Connect by Source Elements: Eliminate Latency Connection

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSIf you are a musician that has tried to collaborate over the Internet, you know latency of a signal can kill the session. There are a few companies working on reducing latency – Source Elements is one of those companies. While you cannot do a live jam session without issue, you can do some pretty cool stuff with this software – record a track and have another record their track to merge together with quality of 320 kbps. If you are running an interview you can reduce the dead air that some connections get because of the lag time. With Source Connect Pro, you can reduce latency to as much as 100 milliseconds – the same speed of a cell phone connection. All you need is access to a Chrome browser (other browsers coming soon). You can run the software on Mac,...

Is Google Hangouts Trying to Get Rid of your Phone Number?

Subscribe: iTunes | Android | RSS What an awesome week in Austin TX for SXSW! Of course, we cannot forget the tragedy that followed the event this year. If that would have happened 24 hours earlier, I might have been part of it. That is how fragile life is. I took NAB off the schedule for now unless I find a last minute sponsor. If you would like to help out, let me know. This weekend, Jennifer and I went to her sister’s house. We watched Frozen for the first time. Its interesting how a good movie can change your mindset. Let it go. Two new products in the review bin – the AMD R7 250 video card and the Blue Mic Nessie (which I am using in this episode). I give my thoughts on these products. Twitter’s IPO: Is it Facebook IPO all Over Again? Geek Smack! 6th Anniversary Episode

Subscribe: iTunes | Android | RSS 6th anniversary of the podcast is upon us! I started this show back in 2007 – named “The Show”. Fourth pair of Google Glass is going back to Google. This time, the camera died. I talk about it on TWIGG. My EmpireAvenue account is at 112 but more interesting is the numbers watching and listening increased. Crowdfund for CES is looking great – we’re planning T-shirts for backer levels. Getting closer to launching the new website to bring more validation to podcasts. I’ve been trying out StreetJelly in the last week – a website where you can listen to musicians playing live. You can even tip them tokens. Why Apple, Google Bested Coca-Cola as Top Global Brand

Subscribe: iTunes | Android | RSS Was proud of iPad365 – not only on “New and Noteworthy”, but also on “What’s Hot” in Technology. I broke down and joined Empire Avenue. My stock jumped to $58.51 in the first two days. Does that mean I’m rich?  Spent the weekend relaxing – on Sunday we did Tandem Kayaking on Lake Monona. Not an easy task at times. Last night’s TWIGG we talked on XE10 and the upcoming GDK for Google Glass. I also tried Google Hangouts with Q&A. While I liked how it worked, in the end the quality wasn’t there. Not sure if the problem wasn’t as much Google as it was my Macbook Pro. I really need to find a way to upgrade my computer so that doesn’t happen again. CES planning is underway. This year – we’re doing a Crowdfund! Expect it to start Oct 15th...

Could Kevin Rose make a good CEO at Microsoft? 4

Why Kevin Rose Should be the Next CEO of Microsoft

Today, Steve Ballmer announced he will be retiring in 12 months. This was set to a lot of mixed emotion. In this world of high technology, CEOs seem to have a good exit plan – Bill Gates had Ballmer in mind when he retired and Steve Jobs had Tim Cook. Ballmer has no one in mind (that we know of). This could start people worrying about Microsoft’s direction. What Microsoft needs is s thinker. An innovator. Someone that will understand the corporate and consumer ends of technology. That is why I think Kevin Rose should be the next CEO of Microsoft. Why Kevin Rose as CEO of Microsoft? Kevin started early – creating Revision 3, Digg, Pownce and Milk. He has invested in ventures such as Gowalla, Twitter, Foursquare, OMGPOP, Square, Facebook, Chomp and Formspring. Rose took his company Milk and pretty much turned it into Google Ventures where he gets 300 million a year...
