Cujo Smart Firewall is the Internet Dog that Protects Your Internet’s Front Door

Some of us have the cable company set up our Internet, which we assume as safe. Maybe you also get a Wifi router, which you think you add even more security to your system. But these devices don’t deal as much with security – only to get you online. you need something that will tell you what is coming into your Internet home and even block the bad. That is where Cujo comes in. The more you have connected to your “Smart Home”, the more a device is needed so others cannot use this door to come in. All you need to do is click a link in an email that looks official. Or maybe you get a new device that you instantly connect to your network, and put all your passwords in, thinking it’s safe. Next thing you know, your computers, smart thermostat, lights, smart TV, and many other...

Dell and Intel Realize Transformation Booth at Dell EMC World 2017

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSCustomers are being empowered with data and technology that Dell and Intel are working on. From the farm, to the car, security, and more. The Realize Transformation area at Dell EMC World 2017 showed off some of the cool innovations customers can use to understand their passions and improve upon them. Transforming the Farm With IoT and analytics, you can map data in real time. They show a connected farm, watching over livestock and measuring temperature and water levels of crops. Millions of points of data coming in so you can know if a cow has wandered off, or your livestock prefers a certain area of land during hot/cold weather. The IoT BMW i8 In the next 5 years, we could be sending 4 TB of data to the cloud per day just by driving our cars. The BMW i8 at the...

Roost Water and Freeze Detector Detects Leaks

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSIf you’ve ever had a leaking or frozen pipe, you know that is not a fun thing to deal with. being able to detect it before the problem gets out of hand is important. That is what Roost Smart Water and Freeze Detector strives to do. We talk with David Henry of Roost at CES 2017 to find out more. Roost is a Wifi enabled product that is placed in an area under the pipes where water pooling could occur. If the device detects any type of precipitation, it will alert you via app to the issue. It will also alert you if the area is too cold or too humid so you can take action. Put the Roost Smart Leak detector by the water heater, under a sink or toilet, or wherever you could expect a water event to happen....

What is HPE Labs “The Machine” at HPE Discover

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSIf someone was to ask you to draw a computer, you would probably draw an opaque box with a monitor, keyboard and mouse. In the last few years, the vision changed ever so slightly with some possibly drawing a laptop or tablet. But a computer is so much more and it’s starting to lose it’s physical body. Just like with the “Star Trek” theme we saw all that week at HPE Discover. I got to talk with Martina Trucco about what Hewlett Packard Enterprise Labs (HPE) saw as “The Machine”. They created an interactive sculpture where you could go inside and see the interactions from the items we use everyday (and might not even know it). From the cell phone in our pockets, to the towers that replicate and push out those signals, and finally, the destination of your communications –...

Kinoma Create: JavaScript-Powered IoT Construction Kit

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSWhile at SXSW, I got a chance to talk with Andy Carle, Ph.D. about Marvell’s Kinoma Create. This is a device that allows you to create and learn hardware and software through the “Internet of Things” (IoT). We stood in front of a Labyrinth as Andy controlled the marble using the Kinoma. This device does a lot more than that. You can learn how to create and setup many different things. We saw a LED light change colors with the interface and a basic Red Blue Green toggle. Another Kinoma was set up to unlock a door. Sensors attached to another Kinoma could tell the temperature and time. The Kinoma create comes with a capacitive touchscreen, Wifi, Bluetooth, speaker and microphone unit, USB, micro SD card, battery compartment (AA Batteries) and a serial console port. Projects are found through Kinoma, or...
