First Look: Sound Forge Pro 3 for Mac

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSAny podcaster or musician out there knows – the better the audio, the better chance people will give you. Adding in something that you might not expect can bring some great results. Next thing you know, people are asking you how you made it sound so good. That is where a program like Sound Forge Pro 3 for Mac comes in. With a version for Mac and one for PC, you can bring in tracks, or even whole songs, and get all the bumps and bruises out. You can re-organize thoughts, and even extract samples for other projects. Even if you have a multi-track editor or movie creator, a program like Sound Forge Pro allows you to take time away from the whole project and focus on one bit. Most video and audio editors will have a function in the settings...

Podcast Microphones: Audio-Technica ATR2100 vs. IK Multimedia iRig mic HD

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSWe have another podcast microphone showdown as I look at two USB podcast mics that you can use for recording audio. Audio-Technica’s popular ATR2100 USB/XLR hybrid microphone and IK Multimedia’s iRig Mic HD USB/iPad microphone. I have pitted the 2100 against the 2500 but now we’re looking at podcast microphone vs. podcast microphone. You can use these microphones with all iOS, Mac and PC software. These microphones will not work on an Android phone without 3rd party adapters. IK Multimedia iRig Mic HD This is a Condenser microphone only in USB format. The micro USB cord is interchangable with USB, iOS 30-pin and lightning cables. One side of the microphone is a db volume dial and the other is an indicator light. The light is blue during passive sound states, green when signal is coming through and red if the signal is clipping. The...

Game Sale Alert: Steam’s 2014 Summer Sale is Live

It’s that time of the year again folks. Valve has started it’s annual Steam Summer sale as of today. As of today, a lot of games on the Steam Store are going to be heavily discounted. There will be some daily deals which last for 24 hours, flash deals which last for up to half a day and deals voted for by the steam community. There will be new deals every single day. For me, the best deals to be had on day one are Mirror’s Edge(£2.45), Skyrim(£4.99) and The Witcher 2(£2.99). With new deals every day, it’s important to keep an eye out to see if you find a game you like on sale. If you see game that you like, jump on it! There is a good chance that you won’t see a good deal like this one on steam until around Christmas time. Some these...

Epic Games Releases The First Gameplay Footage For The New Unreal Tournament

The folks at Epic Games have been hard at work and now, they have finally put together a YouTube video. In it, they show off the very first deathmatch in the new version of Unreal Tournament. As you can see it is a very early version of the game. However, it’s enough to give you a glimpse of all the basic mechanics. At the time of publishing, I have just watched it and impressed with how good this looks already.  In the video, we got an early glimpse of the Weapon system in the new game, we also got a look at how moving around works.  Additionally, we saw a very early test map being used with a bunch of greyscale cubes and a greyscale map. Again, this was a really early version of the game that we are looking at here. However, if this is anything to...

LaCie Thunderbolt Drives – #CES 2012, CES Unveiled

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSIn the next year, we’ll start seeing Thunderbolt devices enter the market. Thunderbolt – previously called “Light Peak” technology – brings a faster connection to our devices like hard drives, peripherals and more. That is why we were excited to see Mike Mihalik from LaCie as he showed off the new Thunderbolt-connected hard drives for the Apple Mac. It started with the Little Big Disk and 2big, which contained two internal 3.5″ drives. Also announced was the eSata Dock, a docking station that connects legacy SATA devices via Thunderbolt. With write speeds of 252 Mb/s and read speeds of 459 Mb/s (shown in the video), these drives will not slow you down. Add to that, LaCie has brought innovations to CES for a few years now – you know this drive will be a great addition to your gear. In 2011, they showed USB 3.0 Memory...

Goodbye, Steve Jobs. Thanks for all the Fish….

As you probably heard by now, Steve Jobs – Apple CEO – has stepped down from that role. They initiated an executive order and Tim Cook took over as CEO. Steve instantly became Chairman of the Board. “Steve’s extraordinary vision and leadership saved Apple and guided it to its position as the world’s most innovative and valuable technology company,” said Art Levinson, Chairman of Genentech, on behalf of Apple’s Board. “Steve has made countless contributions to Apple’s success, and he has attracted and inspired Apple’s immensely creative employees and world class executive team. In his new role as Chairman of the Board, Steve will continue to serve Apple with his unique insights, creativity and inspiration.” – Official Press Release Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak went from 2 guys in a garage to 2,000 employees. The Apple computer was a major part of my life. I remember it being...

Fun in Comics – Comic Life 2 Turns You into a Character [Review]

I enjoy being able to create comics. Of course, I have talked about Bitstrips in the past and also about GoAnimate! for video cartoons. But I have found a program that will let me make comic pages using pictures. That is called Comic Life 2. I can take pictures as I go, or use existing photos. Put in a couple effects and I have a comic look to myself. Add a speech balloon, adjust for size and where my mouth is and write what I want to say. Create multiple pages, like if you were making a comic book. Post to Facebook or another favorite Social Network. The parent company – Plasq – has versions of Comic Life for Windows, Mac and iPad. There is also an iPhone application that lets you caption pictures. You can get those programs right from the App Store.

Un-Box Me: Warpia StreamHD Wireless USB to HDMI Unboxing – Mac, Windows Install

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSS Connecting your computer to your TV has never been so easy. Remember the days where you couldn’t even get a simple headphone jack from your CRT TV? Connecting your DVR, Roku, PC and more to the TV is as straightforward as connecting to the HDMI port. Yet the TV is now so thin it sets on your wall and your computer is not even close to it. You don’t want to run a long cable across the room to watch your movies via DVD and control the system. That is why we have wireless USB to HDMI. Using a simple dongle, you connect one machine to the TV. No wires, no hassles. Warpia has created a wireless USB to HDMI controller called StreamHD. Best part – If you have Windows 7 or Mac OSX, you can connect the TV dock...

iPad Finds Welcome in Business Market (Updated) 0

iPad Finds Welcome in Business Market (Updated)

For quite a while, Apple has concentrated on the home market and has done quite well, increasing its market share significantly, but it is much less of a presence in the business market segment. The Mac’s share of the corporate market has increased somewhat, but has barely reached 10%. (I suspect the publicity surrounding iPods and iPhones attracted the attention of computer buyers who otherwise would not have considered Apple. Nevertheless, I can’t see Apple breaking the stranglehold that Windows NT networking has on corporate America any time soon.) Nevertheless, the iPad seems to be entering the world of business, especially in Asia, from an unusual direction: Marketing and sales. Reuters reports that retail shops, sales persons, and hotels are using them for sales presentations and providing information to customers, while at least one airline is planning to offer to rent them to passengers for in-flight entertainment. The...

Malware in Mac World: Premier Opinion 1

Malware in Mac World: Premier Opinion

The Guardian reports on spyware making its way through the world of Apple Macs. This stuff hides behind screen savers. As the screen savers install, they download malware which opens ports and ships personal information out the back of the computers. The intent does appears to be neither stealing identities nor creating botnets, but, rather, to track web use and personal information for advertising purposes. It’s intrusive to personal lives, but not destructive to machines. It sounds for all the world like our old friend from the early days of Windows, Gator Wallet. From the story: Where’s the spyware from? Apparently a company called PremierOpinion, which has a privacy policy as long as your arm (if you have long arms). Which is owned by VoiceFive Networks. Which is owned by comScore. In fact the VoiceFive/PremierOpinion software – which also attacks is available for Windows – has already been...

For this special offer visit www.gotomeeting.com/techpodcasts This week I take my Podcast talents over to the TPN Weekly Podcast for episode 14. I take the Podcast in a slightly different direction, as I talk a little bit about me and growing up in technology. I throw out some of the computers I used to work with, like the Commodore Vic20, Atari and Apple Macintosh, then my rise into an IT role. I also talk a bit about the future of technology and where we are going as New Media Specialists. It was a fun show to do simply because I went off the cuff and didn’t talk about present tech news. If anything, it was more of an audio blog. I also put some Podcast-safe background music into it. It was provided by Kalliopi, and...

You might remember the famous 1984 Apple Mac commercial, but do remember the commercial the year after? Lemmings. Apple became the biggest one with their 1985 commercial. It made people upset seeing the commercial of blindfolded businessmen walking off a cliff. As the 1984 ad was yeilded as the best, the 1985 ad was yeilded one of the worst for Apple. Geekazine and Friends 2009 Predictions

If you like this article, please DIGG it. Thanks! In Part 1, we looked at last years predictions. The numbers weren’t too shabby. This year, we’ve expanded the list to anyone that wanted to contribute. And Contributions I did get. 250 of them. I spent most of Friday night and subsequent morning filtering the list to a couple pages worth of information. We have CEO’s, CTO’s, Marketers, Podcasters and even a Psychic helping us with this years list. Of course at the end of the list I will be adding my 2 cents worth for 2009 on Page 2.  So without any further ado, let’s get started.
