Jason Falls interviews Keenan Cahill – YouTube Sensation

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSIf there is anyone that has felt the success of YouTube, it’s Keenan Cahill. This 17 year old has been lip-syncing songs for 4 years. His videos are seen by millions ever since he covered Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream”. Of course, growing up as Keenan hasn’t been the best. Suffering from a genetic disorder called “Mucopolysaccaridosis” (MPS-6), where his bones and cartilage did not get proper carbohydrates to grow. Still, his adversity gives him uniqueness, and since, YouTube stardom. Jason Falls sits down and talks with Keenan at the Overblog Booth at BlogWorld & New Media Expo in New York City. Keenan shares his wisdom of how to become a YouTube sensation. For instance – he mentions that he doesn’t refer to his audience as “Fans”. He addresses them as “guys”. Keenan is moving away from lip-syncing and planning to start...

10 Things I Learned From BlogWorld & New Media Expo New York 2012

The event is over. I am sitting in the Yotel, a very interesting hotel on the corner of 10th and 42nd street in Hell’s Kitchen part of Manhattan, New York. After 3 days of solid work, a ton of video taken, and a lot of new people I met, I have a few minutes to sit and reflect about this whole experience. It’s amazing how an event like this can really bring you closer to the people you hear about online. Because of this, I thought I would go through a top ten list of the things I learned not only being at the show, but also being a part of the show (even more than I was back in 2010). There were a lot of new faces.I polled each session I introduced, and in every session, 80% said this was their first BlogWorld & New Media Expo. It...

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSS One of the new startups at BlogWorld & New Media expo had a twist on the idea of video. The program is called AdSmoke and the idea is simple – use this encapsulation program to put your video into. AdSmoke then puts ads in front of your video. AdSmoke ads are in 15 second spots. But if you need a place to put videos, then VidSmoke is another option. Both are still in Beta. Jeffrey Powers talks to Eric Hamilton about this new program. 10 Things I Learned From @Blogworld Critique a Podcast Panel

Last week I held a great panel of content creators who critiqued 4 shows during BlogWorld & New Media Expo. The panel – consisting of Steve Garfield, Rob Greenlee, Mike Cioffi and Mignon Fogerty – critiqued the good and bad. The idea was to improve not only those shows, but also make people think about their own podcasts. The panel made some great observations. It definitely made me think about my shows. I broke it down to 10 areas of focus. I can then work on each area within the next few weeks and improve my podcasts. In turn, people will interact. Here are the 10 things you might want to also consider to better your show: Audio is Important I have done this, too. You bust your butt getting the video done. You are running out of time, but the audio is not that great. You work...

Social Media Clubhouse Walkthrough – @blogworld

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSDuring BlogWorld & New Media Expo, the Social Media Club hosted another Clubhouse. Just like SXSW, the club had guest VJ’s and hosted events during the weekend. I arrived on Friday to the house with Mike Cioffi and Marc Chambers of the Low Budget FM show. The house was closed up and the cab just left. We were a bit concerned being off the strip, but then the bus showed up. A party came through. We walked through the house, which was pretty impressive. The house had 3 hot tubs, a waterslide, wade pool, game room and more. While the main house looked small, the other buildings on the premesis made for a spacious house with privacy if needed. I spent some time in the game room with Jim Lauderback and Coleen Kelly, along with Mike Rotman, producer of the Kevin...

BlogWorld & New Media Expo 2010 Day 2

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSThe second day of BlogWorld & New Media Expo really showed it’s evolution in the new location of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Convention center. The Expo floor opened and felt more structured from last year, because the room was the perfect size. Each booth had something going in it. The Sony booth had a contest to re-stack plastic cups. The World Record coffee cup is in the back and you can get a free headshot from the Social Media Club. I ran into Leo Laporte, who was there for the day. He was covering the expo floor. It was good to talk to him for the brief time. My track started up and my duties were beginning. Rob Walsh did Podcast 101 and Steve Garfield lead Video Podcast 101. The Keynote sessions by people like Scott Stratten, then a mid-day keynote with Brian Solis and Mark Burnett (Survivor, The Apprentice). Finally an interesting closing keynote from Rohit Bhargava and Doug Ullman about how the Livestrong bracelet evolved. I spent a good day talking with people. I sat with Mignon Fogerty to get ready for our session on Friday. Ran into Steve Garfield, where we looked at how the Kodak Zi8 cameras can be used for getting quick content. I ran into a couple Madison – local new media people. I said hi to old friends and met a bunch of new...

Top 10 People to meet @BlogWorld

Well, BlogWorld is only a couple days away and it is poised to be one of the most informative shows for any blogger, podcaster or videopodcaster out there. The list of names reads like a United Nations summit of people in Social Media. The most interesting part of BlogWorld & New Media Expo is that you start to realize – We all don’t live in one spot anymore. While the West coast still has a great deal of Celebloggers, you will soon see that since you can create content from anywhere around the world, not all of those celebloggers and celebpodcasters reside there. Here is a list of 10 people you should meet and learn from this weekend. As any list goes, we could go on forever. Nonetheless, here are my picks: Adam Corolla Of course, Adam has been a powerful name in the space. The best part...
