Netflix, Amazon Prime, or Hulu with Live TV? the Comparison Throwdown 2018

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSOne of my top ten videos that still gets watched several times a day, the throwdown of Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon is still the most popular of my videos. What’s more amazing is that people still ask “Which one should I get”? Lots of changes since I first did this review, so I thought it was time to update it and see what these services have to offer!   What Platforms Can Access Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime? Before we go forward, let’s get this out of the way – All three services can be used on laptop, desktop, Roku, XBox One, PS4, Fire TV, and finally, Apple TV. You can get all three services on certain Smart TV systems, but keep in mind, this can change at any time depending on contractual agreements. The Good and Bad of Netflix Since...

There is a bad joke out there saying Scott Baio took him over the line after the announcement that...

Hulu Plus with No Ads AND Showtime?

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSWhenever someone says “Hulu”, people turn and complain about the ads. They have some of the best new content from major networks like ABC, NBC and FOX. But will the enticement of ad-free content, EPIX movies and Showtime bring you over to the service? EPIX Moving from Netflix to Hulu Plus Keep in mind I am saying “Hulu Plus” here. If you use the free Hulu service, you might not get this content. Nonetheless, on August 30th it was announced that Netflix will be losing the movie content from EPIX on September 30th. The next day Hulu Plus announced they signed a contract with EPIX to deliver content to their service. No word on how you will be able to watch the movies in their library just yet, but definitely a hard blow in the Netflix library. Still, Netflix has a...

Amazon Fire TV Stick vs. Fire TV: A Two TV Solution Under $200

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSEarlier this year Amazon announced the FireTV – a competitor to the Roku and Apple TV. Doubling the specs of both devices, this became my goto choice for over the top television. Now, Amazon has come out with their lower cost version in the Fire TV Stick – mostly to compete with Chromecast and Roku Stick. This $40 device plugs right into your HDMI port in the TV, with a combined power USB cable which – depending on the TV you own – can be powered right through the USB port for a cord-free TV. Before we accellerate on the subject: keep in mind you DO NOT need an Amazon Prime subscription to own or use Fire TV. It does enhance the experience with more content. You can easily just run Netflix, Hulu, YouTube and other apps on Fire TV but...

Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast – the Throwdown II

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSLast year when the Chromecast came out, I wanted to highlight the pros and cons of the top set top box devices. That included the Apple TV and Roku. What I called the Throwdown. Yesterday, Amazon announced their entry into the streaming box market. Their set top box made a big splash with the community. Faster than the other media boxes, the Fire TV also plans to compete with the gaming market and an additional wireless controller system. Therefore, I had to bring the competitors back for… The Set Top Box Throwdown II Amazon Fire TV If you have an Amazon Prime account and want to use it more, this box is for you. Netflix, Amazon, or Hulu Plus – the Throwdown

This article has been updated! This week, Amazon mentioned they may be raising the yearly fee by up to $40. This would make the Amazon Prime service $120 a year, or about $10 a month. Netflix and Hulu Plus have their service for $8 a month. While Amazon offers more to their Prime service, is it worth keeping with the price increase. Better yet, if you only had $10 / month to spend on a service, which one would you buy? The Good and Bad of Netflix Netflix has a streaming service and a DVD rental service. They used to be one entity, but were split into two, with hopes to sell the DVD rental side. Once Qwikster fell apart, the company focused on the streaming — especially TV shows. Netflix is great for TV enthusiasts and kids. There are a ton of shows they can watch over...

Netflix Roku Screen

Why I Cancelled Netflix and Switched to Amazon Prime

It’s really simple. I was tired of not seeing anything new. I was frustrated in looking at the new releases section on my Roku, and seeing Rescue Me there for the last 6 months. I was annoyed at playing the game “Find a movie I really want to watch”. Fact is, I stopped going to Netflix 3 weeks ago. Crackle.com has more variety than Netflix, and it’s free! I was watching more of my HuluPlus subscription, also. It became very apparent to me that I didn’t watch this service anymore. So I finally ditched it.

The keyboard is only active when facing upwards. That way, you don’t accidentally hit a button. “It all comes down to getting your content” Said Bill. “You’ve always had that content from your cable or satellite provider and from your disc media. But you also have that content people are looking for from Netflix or on the internet. What this does is bring all of that into one organized area. So you don’t have to switch between devices.” Sony focuses on separate boxes because consumers already purchased...
