Maker Studios Acquires Blip.tv

This actually happened last week, but I finally got the email this morning stating that Blip will be acquired by Maker Studios – on of the largest YouTube MCNs, with over 4 billion views monthly through 60,000 channels. So I went right to the source to find out what makes these desktop computers so special. I met up with Dan Bannett, HP workstation lead engineer. We tore apart a HP Z820 desktop with dual Xeon processors to see just how powerful this machine is. The Z820 was a RED edition – with RED mockup bay to show how to connect your RED camera and use the Rocket encoding card. They are gearing up for Bug Labs 2.0, but more important, the 4G module they are working on with AT&T. Bug Labs is a modular device for developers and those that want to have more from a mobile device. Interchange cameras, screens, keyboards, touchpads or just make your own device. Android will be soon available on the device, too. We talk with Mike from Bug Labs about the great modules and how to develop for the device using the Von Hippel module. Geekazine has been working with different vendors since inception in 2007. With Podcasts being part of the Techpodcast network, the video had a uncertainty to it. That all has changed as we are now working with Mevio to produce Geekazine video content within. In preparation, we have launched TVazine.com – the official website for all Geekazine video. Within the next couple weeks we will be ramp up video content. We will be producing more video reviews, interviews, and backchannel content to show what it’s like at each event.
