Monster Elements Hybrid Over the Ear Headphones

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSI’ve had many pair of headphones since the 80’s. I’ve had dollar store phones to high-end audio driving sound. Hasselblad Moto Mod Doesn’t Live Up to Expectation

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSI was a big fan of the Lenovo Moto Z with projector Moto Mod. I felt it added something to a phone any business person would want. However, with the Hasselblad camera attachment, it doesn’t go where I would want a camera phone to go. I took this phone to 3 major events for one job – to take photos and video. All three events I switched to my DSLR and iPhone because of how the overall performance was. HasselBlad Moto Mod on Lenovo Moto Z The first issue I had with the phone was simply the power that was behind it. The Moto Z was not as responsive as I wanted it to be. If you had to reboot the device, it simply goes through two videos introductions before the phone finally powered on. The phone had a hard time recognizing...

HP Elite X2 with Wacom Stylus Pros and Cons Review

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSThe first thing I ask anyone that is looking for a new laptop is “What are you going to do with it?” This is important because a gamer doesn’t want a business laptop and an executive might not want a laptop geared toward video production. The HP Elite X2 is a Business laptop. Running documents, getting your books in order, and of course email and web functionality. With the Wacom stylus and military grade standard, it can handle the situation. So let’s go through the pros and cons, then we’ll look at the overall specs. PRO – HP Elite X2 The x2 is light weight and no bigger than a standard tablet. The precision-crafted device is meant for funcitonality and style. Rosewill SP 7260 Computer Speakers for Movies, Music, Gaming

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSIf you are looking for a sub-$100 set of stereo speakers for gaming, movies, or music, the Rosewill SP-7260 speakers will fit the job. These 60 Watt speakers have a range of 60 Hz – 20 kHz to capture a full range of sound. I tested these speakers in multiple capacities – as the replacement speakers at the TV and in the studio for music and podcasting. My results were a decent 4 ohm speaker for your listening needs. One issue I found with the speaker was the “wood case”. Inside I saw press board, over an oak board they had in the graphic. While pressboard does also give a fuller sound over plastic casing, I was a little disappointing over this feature that Rosewill mentioned. Another issue was the 6 foot 4-pin cable used to patch speakers together. While it worked...

Large Diaphragm Microphones: Monoprice 600801 vs iRig Mic Studio

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSIf you are planning to do some podcasting or music recording, you might be in the market for a USB microphone. Large Diaphragm microphones are great for capturing a full sound of a vocal or instrument. They can also be placed to capture an area rather than right at your mouth. We’re looking at two Large Diaphragm USB microphones – The Monoprice 600801 and the IK Multimedia iRig Mic Studio. I am recording straight from these microphones with no post-processing. Levels will be different but you should be able to hear the results each microphone gives. BTW – I did get product from both Monoprice and IK Multimedia but opinions are my own. Monoprice 600801 USB Mic We’ll start with the Monoprice 600801 USB mic. This is a 6-micron sputtered diaphragm with a 22 mm capsule. The microphone records 16-bit 44.1 kHz/48...

Case Logic Kontrast DSLR Camera Case Review

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSWhen I travel with my camera gear, I look for a backpack that can hold everything I need for the plane, then have easy access when it comes to shooting. In my production, I don’t use DSLRs – I have prosumer cameras. Therefore, I need a slightly different organization over what a camera person would. The Kontrast Pro by Case Logic is a simple backpack that can hold all camera gear, a laptop and tablet easily. The nylon case with plastic base allows the case to never fold in on itself. Inside is a velcro compartment area that you can change to your needs. Perfect for a camera and around 9 different lenses. Overall, the size is 12.2 inches wide by 9.4 inches deep by 18.5 inches high. It will easily pass as a carry-on and even fit easily in some of...

Sony URXP03D Easily Connects Wired and Wireless Microphones

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSIf you wanted to mic up a guest to an interview such as this one, you would need two wireless receivers to do it. Sony is now helping fix that with the UWP-D series wireless mics. The URXP03D is a receiver that not only can connect two wireless sources but also allows for two more inputs for many different operations. While at NAB 2016, I talked with Andy and learned about all the types of wireless they offer. The UWP-D series includes in-camera adapters and external adapters such as the URXP03D. This receiver is a 4-input, 2 output device. This means you can connect 2 wireless microphones – lavaliere or handheld – and either one or two microphones through the Mic Input (stereo connection). This will give you ability to mic the room and the speakers, then adjust for maximum performance. The two...

Does the Blackberry PRIV Give You the Blackberry Experience?

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSBlackberry phones were popular because they were meant for business. Their security features were better than any other phone at the time. Some CEO’s would lose their minds if they didn’t have it. Even President Obama had to have a Blackberry over an iPhone 10 years ago. Fast forward to today. Blackberry broke down and created the Android version called PRIV, hoping it would bring those CEOs back. I got this phone from my friends at Verizon Wireless to find out if they accomplished the job. Let’s look at the specs. This is an Android phone running the Qualcomm 8992 Snapdragon 808 Heza-Core processor at 64-bit. An Adreno 418 GPU at 600 mHz and 32 GB Flash memory, upgradable to 2 TB. Monoprice Pro Audio Electronic Drum Set

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSWhether you are an up and coming drummer or a weekend warrior, you need a drum set to play and improve. Sometimes an acoustic kit is not feesable where you live. Electronic kits have been dropping in price and there are many to choose from. I take a look at one of the sub $500 kits in the Monoprice Electronic Drum Set. This is the first kit that Monoprice offers. With 5 drums and 3 cymbal triggers along with the module, you can work on your flams and paradiddles without filling the house with sound. The kit sets up in around 40 minutes. You will need a Phillips screwdriver for assembly. The kit comes with a drum key, but the only device that uses it is the bass drum pedal. The pads are single piezo sensor drums. The cymbals are dual sensor...

Powerful LG-V10 Smartphone Video Review

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: iTunes | Android | RSSFirst I have to say I am not a fan of the larger smartphone. However, the LG V10 is a phone I saw myself using. It does have some downfalls that make it tougher to recommend. Verizon Wireless gave me the phone to test out while I was in Vegas for CES 2016. LG V-10 Specs This is a removable battery and memory expandable smartphone. The LG V10 contains a Quad-core Snapdragon 808 chip for a nice crisp screen in day or night. This phone is also called a two-screen phone; the 5.7 inch IPS Quantum display with Quad HD resolution and a separate strip at the top of the phone to access time, basic apps (like flashlight and camera), weather and more. You can even customize the message on top. The main camera is 16 MP, and the front facing facing...
