Avatar Hotel in Santa Clara, CA Walkthrough to see How Geeky it is

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSOn a recent trip to Sunnyvale, CA, we stayed at the Avatar Hotel – a themed hotel that screams geek. But was it geeky? Was it even a hotel? Hotel vs. Motel – What’s the Difference? According to the dictionary, a Motel (or Motor Hotel) is a place where the room doors face to the outside. A Hotel is where rooms are down a hallway. Now while the Avatar has doors going outside, the whole area is enclosed in a security gated area. While the security is better than a Motel, and the Avatar has more amenities, it still falls under that classification. But you make your own judgement. What Makes the Avatar Hotel Geeky? When you walk into the lobby, you are greeted with little wind-up toy robots. One even has a look of a certain orange-ish faced president. All...

Case Logic Kontrast DSLR Camera Case Review

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSWhen I travel with my camera gear, I look for a backpack that can hold everything I need for the plane, then have easy access when it comes to shooting. In my production, I don’t use DSLRs – I have prosumer cameras. Therefore, I need a slightly different organization over what a camera person would. The Kontrast Pro by Case Logic is a simple backpack that can hold all camera gear, a laptop and tablet easily. The nylon case with plastic base allows the case to never fold in on itself. Inside is a velcro compartment area that you can change to your needs. Perfect for a camera and around 9 different lenses. Overall, the size is 12.2 inches wide by 9.4 inches deep by 18.5 inches high. It will easily pass as a carry-on and even fit easily in some...

World View Experience: Travel 100,000 feet, See Earth’s Skyline

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSLast year, Felix Baumgartner travelled 125,000 feet into the air for his record free-fall jump. As the pictures show, you can get a great view of the Earth this way without actually travelling in space. Well, the folks at World View want to give you that similar experience – 100,000 feet in the air with a lot slower decent. At Tech Cocktail startup event in Las Vegas, I got to find out more about this plan to send groups in a 5 hour tour. The process includes a 2 hour ascent to 100,000 feet via balloon, a one-hour stationary period, and finally a 2 hour decent using a ParaWing. I also found out that Astronaut Mark Kelly will serve as “Director of Crew Operations” for the trip. This trip will not come cheap, though. Each passenger will be paying $75,000 for their seat....
