One Man Crew Camera Slider with Tablet Control – NAB 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSWhen I set up my home studio I tried to find ways to make my cameras work better for me. I thought a slider would be a fun addition – at the time there were no tablets and anything remote controlled would cost an arm and a leg. When I saw Redrock Micro’s One Man Crew, I knew I found something I could use at a decent price. Keep in mind the slider is still $1,495. If you can afford one it will add movement via the camera so you are not in the same static talking head pattern. Even the slightest movement can really help in the production and storytelling. Get the One Man Crew at B&H Photo This device also allows you to set up some great time-lapses. Set the slider to the slowest movement and hit the record...

HP Z27x DreamColor Monitor for 4K Video – NAB 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSMovies such as Frozen, How to Train Your Dragon 2, Mr. Peabody and Sherman, and upcoming Shrek – the Final Chapter all have either used or will be using this technology to make the color pop and the movies shine. All because of a computer monitor. I met up with Dan Bennet this year at NAB 2014. Dan knows his stuff when it comes with high-quality HP computers – like the Z1 G2 – and also HP’s monitors in the HP DreamColor Z27x and Z24x. We focused mainly on the Z27x because of everything it had to offer. The HP DreamColor Z27x features a 4k input support screen, 10 bit color, and an integrated calibration engine to color correct the screen when needed. Dan showed me two calibration devices that could be used and could be calibrated to multiple color formats....

Add a Teleprompter to Video Production: Mirror Image – NAB 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSI have been thinking about adding a teleprompter to my video podcasts. Something that if I script a section, I can read it and still look like I am looking at a camera. The current situation I have a monitor underneath the camera which turns to be very noticeable when I am reading. Plus, I will lose my place because I re-focus back to the camera lens from time to time. I stopped by the Mirror Image booth to talk with JT about teleprompters. They have a full range of them at their website – Teleprompters.com. Strong, sturdy camera mounts that fold up to the size of a small briefcase. Attach a computer monitor or even an iPad (depending on the model) with speed remote and you are able to read script from whatever the situation. I took a look at the...

Ray Ferrer Art at the X-Acto Tent – SXSW 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSI stopped by the X-Acto tent at SXSW to see some of the art of Ray Ferrer. Ray uses stencils to create airbrush on canvases. Caricatures to design art and more, Ray can pretty much make anything. Of course X-Acto and art work hand-in-hand. I have a plethora of blades which I use for art, computer modding or many other uses. He was getting ready to create a Willie Nelson canvas when I stopped by. I looked at the stencil and noticed how many cuts it took to just to make the beard come alive. Other canvas paintings included Jimmy Kimmel (for his show will be live from SXSW this year), abstract items such as a compass and guitar neck, and more. Check out Ray at ArtistRay.com and X-Acto.com

PAPAGO! P3 HD Dashboard Cam, GPS and Video Recorder

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSI remember watching those videos of dash cams while growing up and thinking how great it would be to have my own camera mounted on my car. Today’s technology lets us do that in many ways. My friends at PAPAGO! have been working on such a camera with the P3 HD camera. This is a dashboard camera that can be set on a windshield, or mounted on the dash. It can also be connected right to the 12 volt line, or you can use the USB cigarette adapter. What this does do is not only record your drive in 1080p, but also help on your driving. The P3 includes the advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), lane departure warning system (LDWS) and driver fatigue alarm (DFA) which will make sure you are not dozing off behind the wheel. Manga Studio EX5, Wacom Intuos Manga Tablet: Computer to Graphics Station

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSI was asked to check out the new version of Manga Studio EX5, but I couldn’t do much with only a mouse. Therefore, I got a Intuos Manga pen-tablet to work with it. The one-two punch helped me create some fun anime and other graphics. Manga Studio EX5 Get the Manga Studio EX 5 at Amazon I wish I had this computer drawing software back when I was drawing my comic “Cybeeks”. Manga Studio EX5 is a great way to create graphic novels, storyboards, logos and a whole bunch more. I haven’t drawn in a while, so I wasn’t going to make many masterpieces. Yet, I really didn’t need to. The software has multiple options and staged 3D characters for you to create a quick image the way you like it. You can also use the 3D models as tracing dummies around...
