7 Inch $50 Tablet Throwdown: Amazon Fire, RCA Voyager, ProScan 7

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSGood tablets are getting more affordable and very useful. Amazon launched the Fire 7 inch tablet in their line of Fire products. While a great tablet, I had to wonder how this stacked up to other $50 7 inch tablets. Therefore I found two tablets you might see during your holiday shopping. The RCA Voyager tablet from Walmart and the ProScan tablet which you can find in many different stores. Keep in mind these are not HD resolution tablets and will show slower results than a Fire HD or iPad Air. Nonetheless, these affordable tablets could become second tablets for some and replace laptops for others. Amazon Fire 7 Inch Tablet The Fire 7 inch has a screen resolution of 1024×600 (also known as WSVGA). The Fire is a Quad-Core ARM Cortex A7 processor at 1.3 GHz, and a Mali-450 GPU....

4th Annual Geekazine and Friends 2011 Predictions

It’s that time of the year again. Time for us all to put on the Turbans and come up with some weird assumptions that we can predict the future. So without further ado, here is this year’s predictions: Paul Muller – Caffination Podcast First the guarantee, The next apple iPad will have a front facing camera. Not too much of leap of faith here on this one but they would be absolutely daft to not do this. Comcast will win its struggle to charge for unequal peering. Which sucks iPhone launch on VZW in Q1, to large press coverage but really will only effect at&t subscriber numbers The probable. Android Devices will outnumber apple iOS devices by June. Why I Choose Roku, Boxee (Application) Over Apple TV, Google TV 0

Why I Choose Roku, Boxee (Application) Over Apple TV, Google TV

330 days from now, TV as we know it will have changed. I’ve been saying that for a long time, but on Sept. 1st 2010, I decided to put it on the countdown. Why? Because Apple and Google came out with their set top boxes (Apple, finally taking it seriously). When companies like Apple and Google get into this game, you know the wind is about to change. The Comparison GigaOM has a nice write-up comparing the applications on the boxes. Each one has their own advantages and disadvantages. For example, if you want the iTunes store, you will have Apple TV and that is it. Expect this playing field to grow. The easiest box to program for is Boxee. If you know XML, you can get a channel on for nothing. The 0ther boxes might have you pay a fee for their SDK kits. There are also...

Smartphones Killed the PDA Star (and more) 0

Smartphones Killed the PDA Star (and more)

I saw you back in Comdex in 83 – You were a exciting new technology – a marvel to me with a touchscreen. Ohhhh, ohhh But times have changed and you are now put to the side – the integration with the phone makes it real nice – and you get tossed in the scrap pile to die. Ohhh, ohhh I used your applications ohhh, ohhh And all your revelations…. I did have a PDA. I had a few of them. Palm, iPaq, Axim and a host of others. However, 2 years ago I got my first Smartphone. That pretty much put my last PDA to the side. Earlier in the week I read the article “5 things the Smartphone Killed“. While I am not in total agreeance of the list just yet, I do agree on a lot of their items and I can see the Smartphone...
