The geeks over at OBSBOT have come out with a new app that will allow you to switch between cameras via phone. OBSBOT LIVE is an app that sets up cameras, then gives you switching ability between the cameras.

Compatibility with Android and iOS
The OBSBOT Live app is compatible with both Android and iOS devices. I tested it on an Android phone running version 12 and an iPhone 12, and it worked flawlessly on both. The app requires iOS 16 for Apple devices, ensuring that users can take advantage of the latest features and updates.
Use with Amazon Fire Tablet
In addition to smartphones, the OBSBOT Live app can be installed on an Amazon Fire Tablet. This provides a convenient option for those looking to use a backup tablet for their streaming needs, expanding the versatility of your streaming setup.
On-App Options and Features
Supersource
The OBSBOT Live app offers three customizable canvases, allowing you to tailor your stream’s appearance through the settings. You can select all three canvases in your switcher, providing multiple layout options for dynamic live streams.
Transitions
Enhance your broadcast with six different transitions, ranging from smooth fades to sharp cuts. For those who prefer simplicity, selecting “None” provides a straightforward cut between scenes.
Audio Devices
Each camera can be configured for audio capture, or you can opt to disable audio for a more curated sound experience using a single device. The app includes audio faders to help you balance levels across multiple inputs.
AI-Powered Blur and Filters
OBSBOT Live offers AI-powered features that enable each camera to blur the background and apply filters to the scene. This is especially useful for achieving a consistent look across all your cameras, enhancing the overall professionalism of your stream.
Test Video
During setup, I conducted a live stream using the OBSBOT Live app. Check out the results here: YouTube Live Test.
Pros, Cons, and MEH
Pros:
- Easy Setup: The cameras are simple to set up, and the OBSBOT remote control (Bluetooth required) adds convenience.
- RTMP Streaming: Supports RTMP streaming, along with direct streaming to YouTube and Twitch via their APIs.
Cons:
- Portrait Mode Limitation: Currently, the only way to stream in portrait mode with the Tail Air camera is to physically rotate the camera 90 degrees.
- Blur Feature Lag: Applying the Blur feature can cause camera lag.
- Face-Only Blur: The Blur feature is limited to facial recognition, which may not suit all streaming scenarios.
Meh:
- Transition Setup: Transitions must be selected during the initial setup and cannot be changed during the live stream.
Overall, OBSBOT Live is an intuitive and user-friendly app, and the test stream delivered impressive results. As this software has recently exited the BETA phase, I anticipate significant improvements and new features in the coming months, enhancing the phone camera switcher experience for all users.
