As you probably heard by now, Steve Jobs – Apple CEO – has stepped down from that role. They initiated an executive order and Tim Cook took over as CEO. Steve instantly became Chairman of the Board.
“Steve’s extraordinary vision and leadership saved Apple and guided it to its position as the world’s most innovative and valuable technology company,” said Art Levinson, Chairman of Genentech, on behalf of Apple’s Board. “Steve has made countless contributions to Apple’s success, and he has attracted and inspired Apple’s immensely creative employees and world class executive team. In his new role as Chairman of the Board, Steve will continue to serve Apple with his unique insights, creativity and inspiration.”
Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak went from 2 guys in a garage to 2,000 employees. The Apple computer was a major part of my life. I remember it being a part as I grew up – From playing Ultima II, III and IV, to learning the basics of programs.
Steve Jobs got fired, created NeXT, Pixar and came back to Apple. Amazing how things turn around. The base of NeXT became Mac OS X.
“Keep looking, and don’t settle.” Steve Jobs said in a speech at Stanford University in 2005. It was a term I took to heart when I started Geekazine.com. He is one of the true Geeks in this world.
If it wasn’t for Jobs, the last 10 years might have gone a lot different. Music might still be on CD. Smartphones would still have stylus and Tablets would still be a thing of the future.
Let’s talk about the cult following of Apple. Good and bad, the “Apple Fanboy” is there through it all. Apple vs. Microsoft has been the battle for 15 years. Now that might be changing a bit, but no matter what, Apple will be in that mix.
Thanks Steve. Time to take a break and get healthy again. I hope to meet you someday.
