This actually happened last week, but I finally got the email this morning stating that Blip will be acquired by Maker Studios – on of the largest YouTube MCNs, with over 4 billion views monthly through 60,000 channels. The announcement went as follows:
I’m excited to announce that Blip has been acquired by Maker Studios, a next-generation media company and the world’s largest multi-channel network of online video content. This means exciting things for the future of Blip and our community of talented independent producers. Your passion for creating entertaining, informative, and engaging video is part of Blip’s DNA. We want that collaborative relationship to continue.
A few things that are important to clarify: the core Blip toolset (producer dashboard, video player and monetization tools) will remain the same; Blip.com will continue to operate as a robust entertainment destination; and the industry-leading Blip sales team will be ramping up their sales game. Maker is committed to continuing and improving all of these services, and the Blip brand will continue to represent the best in original web series across all platforms.
I have been a member of Blip.tv since 2010 (TVazine.com). I am excited to see how my partnership with Blip will transfer to Maker Studios. ITM – here is the first video I ever uploaded – I talked about MP3 transmitters:
Congratulations to Blip.tv for the acquisition. As I have been told, there is going to be no change to Blip.tv, but they are looking for shows to promote on the network.
Geekazine and Geek Smack! will continue to be produced and uploaded on Blip.tv (with the live version on Youtube.com/geekazine).
