Is Microsoft Lumia 735 the Selfie Smartphone?

The Windows Lumia 735 is a light-weight phone running Windows 8.1 and upgradable to Windows 10 when available. Our friends at Verizon Wireless have loaned me one for the last few weeks to use.
The phone comes with multiple color back options to fit your personality. And if you are a fan of the selfie, this phone will help with not only photos, but also video, vines, and whatever your life requires.
Microsoft Lumia 735 Specs
The phone itself contains a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and Quad-core Cortex-A7 running at 1.2 GHz. The GPU is Adreno 305 and can handle everyday video and camera use very well.
Snap off the back panel to reveal the removable battery, nano SIM card and micro-SD slot (for up to 128 GB cards). Internally, the phone has 8 GB of RAM.
The Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protects from certain drops and scratches. The screen size is 4.7 inches and this is a multi-touch device.
The primary camera works at 6.7 MP with a Carl Zeiss optical lens. You can take photos and video at 1080p 30fps. The selfie camera is 5 MP and can also do 1080p.
A great feature of this phone is it is Qi charging enabled. Set it on the dock overnight to charge. The battery is 2200 mAh, so it has a talk time of up to 24 hours and standby up to 24 days.
Microsoft Lumia 735 Pros and Cons
First, I wasn’t seeing the 24 hour talk time option. At best it was 20 hours before it died. This is also with limited apps on the device – Facebook mainly.
The backing is a little tough to take off. It’s also easy to put it on backwards. And yes, I did that…
Keep in mind he Lumia 735 does not have the best camera out there. The 5 MP selfie camera is pretty standard nowadays. In auto mode, it takes some great photos. Low-light is OK, but any camera without flash will mostly fail in that area.
The phone is very comfortable to hold. The polycarbonate backing allows for a grippable surface. The design is very similar to my old Lumia 900, but definitely lighter. The design of these phones has always been my favorite.
Although you only get 8 GB of built-in storage, you can easily increase to 128 GB. That, and the OneDrive cloud drive will allow for selfies to be stored and transfered to other devices.
As for the Qi charging, I had difficulty getting mine to charge on the stand I have. Keep in mind its best to get the approved Qi charger for the device and mine is geared toward my Nexus 5.
Other Verizon users have been saying it’s a great phone for everyday use. Don’t expect it to be a powerhouse for games or video production. Others have noted the fm radio option, which most Lumia phones have. Many have been giving up their HTC One M8 Android phone for the Lumia 735.
The Lumnia 735 is $192.00, or $8 a month on a 2-year Verizon contract.
