Les Stuart

Jeffrey Powers met Les Stuart a month ago at Interop (and set up his Twitter – @netmanles). There was a great interview with Aaron Paxon at Interop. Now, Les is here to talk about Network Management.

Les just got done earlier talking about the newest version of Intelligent Management Center () and how it just got smarter.

“IMC is part of the Converged Infrastructure initiative and it converges management as well.” Les mentions. ” From IMC’s single pane of glass (IMC’s user interface), you can plug in voice functionality, wireless management, management, traffic analysis, SOA, QOS and the list goes on. From a single console, you have management of your Converged Infrastructure in a cost effective and efficient manner.”

No more switching from OS to , program to program. As Les called it – “meantime to innocence“. When anything goes wrong, IT has to fix it. How fast is that meantime to innocence at that point.

Making it all work at the same level. These are the demands on IT. It’s gone up from the days of ARPANET. Resources and budget stays the same. IT will have to do more with less.

“How can IT deliver the same level of QOS that users expect, when budgets go down? When headcount in resources aren’t going up to the demand that is put on them? That is where management systems come into play.” Les says. “Then you have . How do you manage that?”

There is a lot to talk about in Network Management. Les is a great person to talk to, he has a demeanor that keeps your attention. Les also shows the passion while he explains what is going on.
