Jabra Solemate Max: More than a Wireless Bluetooth Speaker-Review
It’s tailgate time! You have your grill, you have your mini-bar. But do you have an awesome audio system to run the music through? Today, I’m going to show you the Jabra Soulmate Max – a speaker system for whatever you need.
The Solemate Max is the largest of the solemate series. This 6.6 pound brick is set to blast some sound for long periods of time. This is also a great speaker system for all devices – mobile to laptop and even works well as a TV bar.
The Max is a 90 Watt amplifier with 2 tweeters, 2 woofers and a passive bass radiator. This means it can sound even better if you set it on a wood surface but the rubber footed bottom keeps it from vibrating around.
The 3 cell 2200 mAh Lithium Ion battery gives you a standby time of over 3100 hours and music play time of 14 hours. It takes around 2 hours to fully charge the solemate.
Interesting options make this device perfect for more than just an iPhone. On the bottom is a 3.5 mm headphone jack which you can connect other devices to the Max.

Solemate Max: More than a Wireless Bluetooth Speaker
The Solemate Max also has a USB port so you can keep your phone charged while pushing the music through. The battery should still get through an 8 hour party without problem.
If your phone supports it, you can pair via Bluetooth. Simply hold the power button until the device is in pair mode. Then just connect your device. The Solemate also offers NFC to pair the devices.
On the top of the speaker is full control of the music for Bluetooth connectivity. The device also has speakerphone capabilities so you can use this as a conference speaker on the go.
The design allows for the Max to sit on its side or bottom. A lipped well on the top allows you to set your phone atop without it bouncing around.
The rubber handle on the side helps for carrying around outside. Finally, like all solemate lines – the Max is rain, dust and shock resistant. This might even come in handy as a construction site sound system. I would still cover the connectors if your tailgate has a little percipitation.
Pros and Cons: Jabra Solemate Max
Some might trip over the weight of 6.6 lbs, but it really is about the battery life of this device. The original Solemate and Solemate Mini are a lot lighter with less features and less battery life – for a better pricing option.
In comparison to other sound bars, the Max does a great job but is not the top soundbar out there. Most people won’t notice the difference anyway so you’ll have to make the judgement call.
I like the construction of the device. The laptop-like power plug allows for faster charging, but it would have been nice if I could use the USB to charge via car to squeeze out a little more time.
For some of you Audiophiles out there, the Max’s digital signal processing may get your head to turn. This basically helps with leveling of audio from song to song. If you have a lot of un-leveled music, the processor tries its best to match the volume, but only can do so much so some music might sound junky to you.
The price is a concern of most consumers. A $300-400 tag – which is what most of you pay for your smartphones to begin with. But once again, you are buying a powerful and durable sound system with enough battery life to get through your event.
I even plugged in a 4-port USB plug and was able to charge more than one phone at a time.
In all the Solemate Max is a great addition to your portable speaker needs. Whether it be a tailgate party, outdoor picnic, worksite boom box, dance off in the old warehouse or whatnot – the Solemate Max can help keep the music going while not killing off your phone’s battery.
