The Korea – U.S. Startup Summit in New York Promotes Korean Startups
I was a part of the ?????KISED – KOREA-US SMEs go TOGETHER and KOREA-US Startup Summit event in New York City on Sept 20-21, 2022. This is the first summit held in the United States outside of a big event such as the Consumer Electronics Show.
**This was a sponsored event for Geekazine. AVING.Net and KISED brought Geekazine out to interview and post on this show. **
About the Korea – US Startup Summit
This event hosted around 50 companies from Korea with products that want to start production or distribution in the U.S. at Pier 17 in New York City. The brands range from food, to beauty, technology, and more. Major companies Google, Hyundai Motor Group, and Naver Cloud hosted pavilions to help smaller groups come to the event.
K-Pop and Bellygom
This event was mostly held privately, but there were opportunities for the public to learn a little. Out front of Pier 17 was a 49-foot tall pink teddy bear named “Bellygom“. This bear was created by the Lotte Shopping, and set as a promotion to have the 2023 World Expo held in Busan (on the southern tip of South Korea).
The summit also had popular K-pop bands playing at the Greens on the rooftop of Pier 17.
KISED President Kim Yong-Moon
I sat down and talked with the organizer Kim Yong-Moon, who is also president of KISED – Korea Institute of Startup and Entrepreneurship Development. The goal of KISED is to help Korean companies find their places in a global economy. And as I found out this last year at CES, the Korean global startup economy was hit hard due to the pandemic, losing Billions of dollars in revenue in the last 2 years.

Teuida App – Geekazine’s Top Pick for the conference
Pronounced “Tew-ee-da”
Teuida helps you learn Korean in a different way. The company scripts videos in which you interact by speaking in Korean when you are prompted to. This shows you how the words are structured in a conversation.
Depending on the level of difficulty, if you mis-pronounce the words, the actors respond with “What did you say”? You are then given another chance to interact.

Mycel – Using Mycelium to Create Food and a Leather Alternative
At the base of certain plants and dying trees lives Mycelium – a network of fungal threads that breaks down organic material. This can also be harvested and turned into food that can feed many.
Mycelium also can be turned into a leather alternative for car seats, shoes, clothing, and more. The end result is a material that comes from the Earth and is fully degradable back into the soil.
The Mycel Project is working on cultivating this spore and turning it into useful products.
The One-on-One Interview Area
Pikurate Organizes an Influencer’s Content
This app helps you organize posts so when you visit (or re-visit) an area, you can see what you’ve talked about, and plan for things you might’ve missed. The app pulls from other social networks to put it in a single spot for organization.
If you are not an influencer, Pikurate allows you to organize another’s posts and photos so you can create your own walking tour of the area.
The Naver Cloud Pavilion
Argosdyne Drones
These industrial drones from Argosdyne serve a specific purpose – to go inspect areas where humans shouldn’t go. In the video, we talk about bridge inspection (finding cracks in the infrastructure for repair), but these drones can be used for other events where it is too dangerous to go. Earthquakes, wildfires, and high radiation areas are just a few examples.
The second land drone not only serves as a landing spot for the aerial drone, but can also charge the batteries and protect the drone if the area becomes unstable.
