Kinoma Create: JavaScript-Powered IoT Construction Kit
Last Updated on March 10, 2024 7:46 pm by Jeffrey Powers
While at SXSW, I got a chance to talk with Andy Carle, Ph.D. about Marvell’s Kinoma Create. This is a device that allows you to create and learn hardware and software through the “Internet of Things” (IoT). We stood in front of a Labyrinth as Andy controlled the marble using the Kinoma.
This device does a lot more than that. You can learn how to create and setup many different things. We saw a LED light change colors with the interface and a basic Red Blue Green toggle. Another Kinoma was set up to unlock a door. Sensors attached to another Kinoma could tell the temperature and time.
The Kinoma create comes with a capacitive touchscreen, Wifi, Bluetooth, speaker and microphone unit, USB, micro SD card, battery compartment (AA Batteries) and a serial console port. Projects are found through Kinoma, or independent projects are up on Github.
If you are a prototyper or just learning JavaScript or hardware basics, the Kinoma Create is a fun way to build simple projects. Or maybe elaborate Labyrinths for hours of skill-building. For more information, check out Kinoma.com/create
