I am an avid user of the Sony Handcam cameras. Last year Sony came out with their first 4K Handycam and they improved on it this year with the FDR-AX53 4K Handycam. I got to talk with Christine while I was at CES 2016 about the features to this new model.
The AX53 Handycam added some new features from last year, including the newest in Carl Zeiss technology and a new Exmor R CMOS sensor. The ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T lens has a 26.8 mm wide angle with a focal length of 24-70 mm and an aperture range of f/2.8 – f/22.
One of my favorite features is the Intelligent Active mode. A 5-axis stabilizer that reduces camera shake even while running. They had several cameras set up on shaking platforms and a stable shot on screen.
The internal wireless feature allows you to control this new camera with a mobile device in iOS or Android format. Simply download and install the app from the respected app store. Other features include time-lapse and high-speed record at 120 fps. Advanced editing features are also available within the camera including Timecode and User Bit data.
The Handycam AX53 will be available in March for $999 (Pre-order on Amazon).
