Verizon Jetpack 6620L MiFi Review Video

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSWhen I was on travel the last few months, I got to take the Verizon Jetpack 6620L Mifi with me. It’s a great addition to any Itinerant’s tech gear as it saves your phone in so many ways. While I didn’t travel Internationally, I was in some spots where the signal was weak and was still able to keep in communication. The Verizon Jetpack 6620L is a 4G LTE mobile hotspot that can connect up to 15 devices. The 4,000 mAh battery gives a usage time of around 20 hours with an even better standby time. Two USB plug types so you can plug it in different sockets to keep the battery charged. The 6620L also is small enough so it can be put in a bag for travel. The Jetpack will work on LTE, CDMA, EDGE/GSM, and HSPA, so the Mifi...

Most items can be found at the store: http://geekazine.com/stormready USB chargers I get a lot of these at conventions – seems to be the new swag. The idea is to use these things to charge your phone when it’s down to 10%. Some can get you back to 50%, some can fully charge your phone 2-3 times. I have used many chargers. Canon Unreal Bowling Makes the Game New Again

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSI remember biking to my local bowling alley for 10 frames of fun and frustration. I was even on a league where I couldn’t figure out how to break 200. Nowadays, bowling is a sport that is losing interest as alleys are closing down. But can something like Unreal Bowling bring the excitement back? While at Infocomm 2016, I got to check out the “Unreal Bowling” by Canon and Crunchy Logistics. Using sensors and their Canon REALiS Projectors, they were able to give the lanes an interactive upgrade. Flip through the menus to choose what you want to do on the lane. You can attack Pumpkins, run the ball across a piano, see Fireworks and much more. This can even turn one game into many to bring excitement to the weekend-bowler. This is not a cheap investment as a simple lane...

What is HPE Labs “The Machine” at HPE Discover

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSIf someone was to ask you to draw a computer, you would probably draw an opaque box with a monitor, keyboard and mouse. In the last few years, the vision changed ever so slightly with some possibly drawing a laptop or tablet. But a computer is so much more and it’s starting to lose it’s physical body. Just like with the “Star Trek” theme we saw all that week at HPE Discover. I got to talk with Martina Trucco about what Hewlett Packard Enterprise Labs (HPE) saw as “The Machine”. They created an interactive sculpture where you could go inside and see the interactions from the items we use everyday (and might not even know it). From the cell phone in our pockets, to the towers that replicate and push out those signals, and finally, the destination of your communications –...

Samsung Galaxy S7 Review

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSSamsung makes solid phones – period. That definitely goes for the Galaxy S7. Whether the S7 or the S7 Edge, you can’t go wrong with a Samsung Android – especially if you are going to use it for your VR experience. The folks at Verizon have given me this device to play with. I took it to Vegas with me for a major conference, so let’s start with the specs, then get into the pros and cons. Keep in mind the S7 and the S7 edge are almost exactly the same phone. The big difference is the bevelled edge that can also give you a display ticker on the side. I am personally not a fan of the Edge phone, so the S7 is perfect for my needs. The phone is a 5.1 inch display screen at at resolution of 2560×1440...

Case Logic Kontrast DSLR Camera Case Review

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSWhen I travel with my camera gear, I look for a backpack that can hold everything I need for the plane, then have easy access when it comes to shooting. In my production, I don’t use DSLRs – I have prosumer cameras. Therefore, I need a slightly different organization over what a camera person would. The Kontrast Pro by Case Logic is a simple backpack that can hold all camera gear, a laptop and tablet easily. The nylon case with plastic base allows the case to never fold in on itself. Inside is a velcro compartment area that you can change to your needs. Perfect for a camera and around 9 different lenses. Overall, the size is 12.2 inches wide by 9.4 inches deep by 18.5 inches high. It will easily pass as a carry-on and even fit easily in some...

HP Pavilion x2 is a Laptop, Tablet, Kiosk and More

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSHP calls it their most versatile detachable PC. It’s a laptop that easily converts to a tablet and even a table tent for kiosk options. The folks at HP gave me one to play with and although I am getting compensated for this review, the review itself is my own opinion. So let’s get started with the specs, then see if this machine is worth the sub-$500 price tag. Pavilion x2 12 inch comes in 2 models – with an Intel ATOM x5 series processor and Intel Core M – thier 6th generation processor. The machine I have is the Intel core m3 at 1.51 GHz, 100 MHz Bus, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB storage supplied by Samsung. Windows 10 64-bit home is on the machine and it can be configured for PC or tablet mode depending on what...

360fly Review Right From the 360 Video Camera

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSI’ve been having an awesome time with figuring out 360 video. That is why I decided to create this review in 360 video view. Now if you are watching this from my podcast channels, you might be seeing this crunched down. To view it in the intended version, you either will have to download 360 viewing software or go to Youtube.com/geekazine and watch it there. The hardware I am using is 360fly. This is a 360 half-spherical camera. What does that mean? Well even though you get a 360 degree view in the middle, either the top or the bottom does not get recorded because there is no optics on one side. The top or bottom recording is all dependant on how you set up the camera. I have the 360 fly set up to point down. This makes it a...

Duplicator 4K Makes 25 SD Card Copies at Once

As you get ready to leave the event, you are given an SD card with the festivities inside for you to consume again and again. That is what the Blackmagic Design Duplicator 4K does. While at NAB I talked with Kendall with Blackmagic Designs on the Duplicator 4K. You can copy up to 25 cards per rack mount at a time. You can also daisy-chain the units together to record more for larger events. Each unit can take a SD card and fill it with the event you recorded in multiple formats up to Ultra HD at 2160p 60fps. Sony URXP03D Easily Connects Wired and Wireless Microphones

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSIf you wanted to mic up a guest to an interview such as this one, you would need two wireless receivers to do it. Sony is now helping fix that with the UWP-D series wireless mics. The URXP03D is a receiver that not only can connect two wireless sources but also allows for two more inputs for many different operations. While at NAB 2016, I talked with Andy and learned about all the types of wireless they offer. The UWP-D series includes in-camera adapters and external adapters such as the URXP03D. This receiver is a 4-input, 2 output device. This means you can connect 2 wireless microphones – lavaliere or handheld – and either one or two microphones through the Mic Input (stereo connection). NewTek Open Source NDI Standard for Video Production

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSIn a video production environment, spreading out tasks between computers can help in many different ways. From producing the video for public consumption to creating archive and even monitoring systems. Network Device Interface (NDI) is a standard that can bridge devices together – and you don’t even have to own a Tricaster. While at NAB, I talked with Phillip Nelson of NewTek about this open standard. NDI was announced back in 2015 to communicate with devices over Gigabit Ethernet. A standard that almost all corporate and video production buildings (even home studios) have. The idea is to have one computer send video or other items over to the production machine without having to convert or render. The end result is a reduction in production workflow. Many different programs have already adopted NDI into their systems. You don’t even need NewTek products...

Saramonic Camera Audio Mixers and Microphones

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSA couple months ago I purchased the Saramonic Smart Mixer for my phone and have been happy with the results for covering live shows. While at NAB I stopped by the Saramonic booth to find out what other great products they have for my video and audio production on the go. Turns out Saramonic has a lot of great audio solutions – wired and wireless. I started with the SmartMixer 2 channel Audio Mixer Kit for iOS or Android. As I was recording via the device, you can hear how this cuts out background noise to get the interview. I looked at a very interesting microphone for GoPro cameras for $35. They also have lavaliere microphones if you do vlogging or simple on-camera spots. I then went over the large array of DSLR Camera Microphone Pre-Amps, such as the SR-AX101. You can...
