Outdoor Exchange: Sublet Your Gear to Others – Disrupt 2014
Last Updated on March 10, 2024 4:22 pm by Jeffrey Powers
I used to camp at least one weekend a year. The other 51 weeks the stuff would be sitting in the basement. Now the stuff permanently sits there. So why not rent it out to someone else? That is what the Outdoor Exchange is all about – subscription based lending to sublet your gear.
From tents to kayaks, binoculars to fishing rods. Even tech gear such as a GoPro or GPS finder – Outdoor Exchange wants to send it out to you.
Right now they are in an Indiegogo campaign – for $100 a year you can sign up for the service. You can check out one item per week (Another $100 per extra item). They ship to you, you use the item, then ship back when done.
Founder Dariusz Jamiolkowski and his wife kayaks, but no other friends do. He was thinking of a rental plan for the kayak, then realized how much gear he had in the basement and how he could put it to use. The OX (short for Outdoor Exchange) was born.
The OX has locations in New Jersey, so if you live there you can pick up your rentals. They are working on a shipping plan so others can rent items for the week.
