Using an iPad, Tonebridge, Tabs, and iRig Stomp when Playing Your Guitar

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSIf you’ve played guitar, you’ve seen other’s guitar pedal rigs. A big box filled with pedals and power cords so they can get the right sound for a song. But what if you could jam that all into one pedal? What if I said you can with an iPad, two apps, and a single pedal? You can then play your guitar and make it sound as close to the actual artist as possible. My guitar setup Simply put, I have an iPad Pro 10.5 (2017 model). Inside are two apps: Tonebridge, and Tabs. Both of these apps are made by Ultimate Guitar. Tonebridge App A simple app that turns the tone of a song into a simple pedal. Want to play “Stairway to Heaven”? Maybe some “Back in Black”, or “Purple Rain”? Just choose the pedal from the list. Each pedal...

Earin M-2 Wireless Earbud Headphones for iPhone, Android

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSAs we move away from wired headsets, we look for devices that will not only deliver great sound, but also stay in our ears. Last year, Earin came on the scene with a wireless earbud and power capsule to go with your new iPhone 7 or Lenovo Moto Z (both devices without headphone jack). The folks at Earin came on the scene last year with their M-1 earbuds. Bluetooth earbuds with a charging case for up to 9 hours of listening pleasure. This year at CES 2017 Bluetooth Conference, Earin shows off the new M-2 earbuds. These headphones now include a microphone technology so you can take calls, talk to Siri or Android Assistant, or record audio for podcasts or voice messages. The microphone drivers include a proprietary noise removal algorithm technology so you can have a phone conversation in a...

Cool Things You Should Have During a Power Outage

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSso your summer is going well, but that big storm hits and you lose power in the house. Sometimes it’s for an hour. Other times it could go all night. But fear not, because there are some simple things you can do to get through a hot, sweltering night and still have some creature comforts of home! Most items can be found at the store: http://geekazine.com/stormready USB chargers I get a lot of these at conventions – seems to be the new swag. The idea is to use these things to charge your phone when it’s down to 10%. Some can get you back to 50%, some can fully charge your phone 2-3 times. I have used many chargers. One in particular is the MyCharge Razor. 6000 mAh will allow you to keep a phone charged, and also turn it into...

TYLT: Chargers, Cables With Fashion, Functionality – CES 2012

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSBuilt to TYLT. They looked at the car charger cable, and wanted to make it look cool. That is what the TYLT charger is all about. They have cables for all devices, with tangle-free cords. TYLT also has a 1800 mA battery charger for your on-the road charger. Plug in the built-in cable and charge up. The Power Plan is a 5200 mA  plug that can charge an iPad up to 30%. These can replace those wall warts that you plug your USB device into. So you use this like you would plugging your phone or iPad into the wall, but it also charges the internal battery so you can continue to charge while looking for another outlet, or on the go. TYLT also has iPhone cases with a lens cover for your iPhone. The Cush is a designer case. The...

OWC: Power2U AC/USB Wall Outlet, GripStand, GripStation – CES 2012

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSOur friends at OWC were back at CES showing off the only UL-Listed in-wall solution for powering and recharging USB devices. The OWC Power2U wall outlet is a wall plug that contains two USB plugs. Instead of the USB adapters, you can plug the USB device into the drive. Slide the shutter to the side and plug the cord in. The Power2U knows what device it is, therefore, gives the appropriate power. Power2U also eliminates Vampire power – once you take out the USB cord, it stops supplying power to the outlet. OWC is also looking to the enterprise – especially on the iPad. The GripStand Station is a box that stores your iPads, and charges them at the same time. Unlock the padlock, slide up the unlocking bar, pull out the iPad with a GripStand, and your on the go. Get Gripstand on...

Ramblings – 6-21-09 – Las Vegas

Day Off – Sort of A late Ramblings this week as I decided to stay offline last week. It was a long week and I was playing all weekend. It has been a while since I last took more than 24 hours off a computer, so that is a big feat for me. HP Tech Forum I had a fun time talking and working with Andy McCaskey and Kara Karsten with SDRNews. We had such a blast. We also put forward the mobile interview booth rig. We call it the “MacGyver” rig. Nonetheless, it was connected to uStream and we were able to conduct a few interviews for the event. Check out all the info on the Twitter log at #HPTF. Great to meet some new bloggers: Shane Pitman of Neowin, John Obeto of AbsoluteWindows. We had a great week along with Halley, Tom, Calvin and Rebecca from...

The Internet: Environmental Wasteland?

The Guardian reports that some scientists are concerned that the internet is consuming too much electricity. Read the story here; I’m not even going to try to excerpt it. I guess it’s time for all of us to go back to chipping out our bitstrips on the walls of the cave.

BYOC – Personal Computer As a Corporate Machine?

Subscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSAs a consultant, I use my own equipment all the time. When I get to a specific client, sometimes I am asked to sign a waiver that states I will not take company data. I sign it because I am not going to ruin any relationship by walking out with secrets or customer lists. Data nowadays can be controlled. We at the Quickcast have talked about how that can happen many a time. However, the most important thing in a work environment is to make sure the data stays within the company – even after a person has left. Citrix Systems has given  Employees a bonus payment to buy their own laptop for corporate use. While it does give advantage, could the company lose control of the data? DigGoogle – What Google Can Gain if They Buy Digg

Subscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSS Subscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSDigg grew to a powerhouse site in a very short time. The Popular News Aggregator service continues to be a great place for people to not only read news, but also contribute to what they think is news. Alexa reports that Digg has been fluctuating around the top 100 to 150 sites being viewed. 52.5% of those viewers are in the US. The rumor mill is stirring up again that Google has put interest in buying Digg. TechCrunch reports that the “Rumor” is Digg will be selling for $200 million although CEO Jay Adelson denies it. Will this be a good deal for Digg, or can they grow and survive on their own? Digg started in 2004 by Kevin Rose, Own Byrne, Ron Gorodetzky and Jay Adelson. The idea was to aggregate news items and...

Our cousins had a Vic20 and we played some cool games. When we got home at the end of the week, we opened our presents and low and behold, we had a Vic 20. I swear I got up early every day of Winter break to play on this new machine. I did have to fight for use with the rest of my family, but I think I got some good time on it.

The word SNAFU is an acronym, in which most of it I cannot decode here, so I’ll fudge it a bit. Situation Normal All Fouled Up. If you were to go through a snafu a few years ago with a company, you would most likely grumble to your friends and family and then move on – Little impact on that. However, in this day and age, a Snafu can really come back to hurt. With Social Networking rising 47 percent year to year (according to Nielsen Netratings), this can really give companies a tough time if problems arise. But still, can social networking cause a company hardship because of a single or series of transactions?

Someone is always Challenging Someone – Apple iPhone vs. Blackberry

Subscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSS Subscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSToday in the Gym I was watching a report that Apple iPhone was challenging Blackberry for market share in the corporate world. I agreed with the report – Apple has a better user interface than the Blackberry, Blackberry is too expensive in their messaging systems and an iPhone looks a lot better than a Blackberry device. But then I got to thinking about it. Is this really news? I mean, yeah – we’ve got one company trying for a niche that another company has. However what company hasn’t tried to emulate or compete with another company’s corner-hold before?
