These Japanese Robots Can Exercise And Even Sweat

It’s not every day that you see robots doing sit-ups, nevermind doing sit-ups to the point where they actually break a sweat. What manner of hell are these scientists unleashing on us? Do they expect robots to train in robo-gyms and get buff before chasing us all down with these muscles and taking over the world? It sure seems like it, but these scientists claim this is important to aid in research for better crash test dummies and in other fields. These robots have anatomically correct musculoskeletal structures like spinal joints and their body mass and proportions resemble that of a human’s. These two robots specifically are named Kenshiro, modeled on a 13-year-boy, and Kengoro, a newer robot that is slightly heavier. These robots do actual workouts and Kengoro even sweats like a human. The sweating feature is designed to cool the bot. Watch as these bots perform...

Magic Leap One Augmented Reality Goggles

The new reality is augmented reality and Magic Leap has been working on their own augmented reality device for a few years. The fruits of their labor have paid off and they have unveiled the “creator edition” of the Magic Leap One. This augmented reality system includes the AR goggles paired with a small external computer called the Lightpack. You also get a handheld controller. I have to say, the goggles themselves look pretty fantastic compared to the ugly offerings we normally associate with AR and VR goggles. They have a small form factor that some feared would lead to a performance loss, but by all accounts, that’s not the case. The Magic Leap One has several input modes like voice, gesture, eye tracking, and head pose. One of the cooler abilities is that it can map persistent objects onto the environment, so if you place an object...

Avatar Hotel in Santa Clara, CA Walkthrough to see How Geeky it is

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSOn a recent trip to Sunnyvale, CA, we stayed at the Avatar Hotel – a themed hotel that screams geek. But was it geeky? Was it even a hotel? Hotel vs. Motel – What’s the Difference? According to the dictionary, a Motel (or Motor Hotel) is a place where the room doors face to the outside. A Hotel is where rooms are down a hallway. Now while the Avatar has doors going outside, the whole area is enclosed in a security gated area. While the security is better than a Motel, and the Avatar has more amenities, it still falls under that classification. But you make your own judgement. What Makes the Avatar Hotel Geeky? When you walk into the lobby, you are greeted with little wind-up toy robots. One even has a look of a certain orange-ish faced president. All...

The Hang-Up Light Illuminates Your Closet

Closets are dark scary places, which is probably why some of us prefer them closed while we sleep because it’s a well known fact that ghosts and monsters use them as portals to enter our world. But even aside from the creepy aspect of a dark closet, you really should add some light. You can install some lighting of course, but that requires either rewiring your home or installing one of those battery operated lights that really stink. Or you can go another way. Use some hangers that provide the light. I think that’s a much better idea. The Hang-Up Light is designed to offer you the ability to see everything without a traditional light. It is just like a regular hanger, except this one has LEDs that will shine brightly into your closet, letting you view your wardrobe collection. This way you won’t have to turn on...
