Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSOne of my top ten videos that still gets watched several times a day, the throwdown of Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon is still the most popular of my videos. What’s more amazing is that people still ask “Which one should I get”? Lots of changes since I first did this review, so I thought it was time to update it and see what these services have to offer!   What Platforms Can Access Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime? Before we go forward, let’s get this out of the way – All three services can be used on laptop, desktop, Roku, XBox One, PS4, Fire TV, and finally, Apple TV. You can get all three services on certain Smart TV systems, but keep in mind, this can change at any time depending on contractual agreements. The Good and Bad of Netflix Since...

Posting Video of Illegal Activities on YouTube – Should it be Taken Down?

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSThis last week, Daredevil Steven Hoeg posted a video on YouTube of him jumping off the Monona Terrace in Madison, WI. This is an illegal stunt that will cost him a fine of $400. However, the video stays on YouTube, which could make him more money and additional fame for just pulling the stunt off. Since Hoeg created a video doing something illegal, should that video be allowed to stay on YouTube? Youtube does have a policy for illegal activities. However, these activities are mostly limited to drug use, acts of violence, bomb making, choking games, dangerous content involving minors, or other acts where serious injury could result. This puts Hoeg in a grey area. It is dangerous but no injury happened. If Steven would have said “I dare you to try this”, YouTube would take this video down. Yet it...

Telestream Wirecast 5 – NAB 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSI stopped by the Telestream booth to find out what is going on with one of my favorite streaming software programs – Wirecast 5. I learned about the plethora of software and updates Telestream has to offer for any broadcaster – from podcast streaming to TV production. One product Telestream was promoting is Switch. this program will give you media playback in multiple media formats, then switch the video to the same format as other video. Switch supprts MOV, MP4, MXF, GXF, MPEG Transport Streams, and even Ultra HD 4k.  We also talked about the updated Wirecast 5 streaming software. With this software you can attach multiple cameras for a switching source, add chromakey events, lower 3rds, audio breaks, and more. Wirecast can send the video to another program, record to a video file, or even stream out to platforms such as...

Sleep Pods to Promote FX new TV Show “The Strain” – SXSW 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSWalking the streets of Austin for SXSW does two things – it destroys your shoes and it tires you out. That is why I stopped into this building, which promoted rejuvination and relaxation through sleep. I ended up getting to know more about this area and the new FX TV show called “The Strain” (coming in July). In this video, I talk with Raimy of FX Networks, talking about “the Strain Transformation Station”. About the Sleep Pods Within the quiet area were pods which you could crawl into for 30 minute power naps. Within the pod, you could watch part of the new TV show “The Strain”, you could have listened to a couple chapters in the book “The Strain” by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan. or you could just sleep. When done, you are treated to their branded energy...

I Play the 3D Printed Steampunk Guitar – SXSW 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSa few weeks ago I saw this 3d printed steampunk guitar. I thought “man that would be cool to play…” Well, I got my wish. As I was passing by the 3D printing tent, I saw the steampunk beauty sitting I the stand. It was designed by Olaf Diegel of odd?org.nz. He has made a few guitars using 3D printing technology. The guitar featured Seymour Duncan pickups and a Warmoth Pro telecaster neck. I wasn’t able to play it long because the tent didn’t have a music permit, but I was able to create a short song and play it on the guitar.

Interview with Downtown Podcast – Bringing in the Community

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSSome podcasters have a microphone and computer in a closet to create their shows. Others use a webcam and Google Hangouts. But what if you had a live audience you can play to – and also bring that audience into the show? That is what Downtown Podcast does. I had a great opportunity to speak with a group of podcasters that are not only putting on a great show, they are doing it with the downtown Las Vegas community behind them. The Downtown Podcast is a show recorded live every Thursday night at the Ogden in downtown Las Vegas. The podcast is about the new startup scene being created in the old part of town. Entrepreneurs from all areas are creating this new community that actually is one. People helping people succeed. The crew are creators themselves. Dylan Jorgensen (Ticket Cake),...

Netflix, Amazon, or Hulu Plus – the Throwdown

This article has been updated! This week, Amazon mentioned they may be raising the yearly fee by up to $40. This would make the Amazon Prime service $120 a year, or about $10 a month. Netflix and Hulu Plus have their service for $8 a month. While Amazon offers more to their Prime service, is it worth keeping with the price increase. Better yet, if you only had $10 / month to spend on a service, which one would you buy? The Good and Bad of Netflix Netflix has a streaming service and a DVD rental service. They used to be one entity, but were split into two, with hopes to sell the DVD rental side. Once Qwikster fell apart, the company focused on the streaming — especially TV shows. Netflix is great for TV enthusiasts and kids. There are a ton of shows they can watch over...

iStopMotion by Boinx – Create Stop Motion Videos

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSStop motion is an art that some excel in. Claymation and LEGO motion are both types of Stop motion video. Movies like Wallace and Grommet and Chicken Run use this technique. Now you can, too! A couple weeks ago, Boinx software sent me the iStopMotion software to play with on my Mac and iPad. I am not a stop motion expert by any means, but this software made is easy to create my own videos and animated GIFs. Advantages of iStopMotion The ghost images show you where your items were so adjustments can be made. You can load an audio track so the stop motion can sync with it. You can even load in a video to create a stop motion version. Imagine re-creating Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer with this software! You can also put up a chromakey background to put your...
