Tip Your Favorite Band any Time with TipCow

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSAs a band member, I know how hard it is to not only get what you are worth, but also promote with a tip jar. Even as a patron, I never get to the front of stage to throw a couple dollars in to support the music. Now, with TipCow, I can do it all from my phone and don’t even need to be at the show. Sitting down with Chris Bush (CEO of TipCow) at SXSW I found how they are different than any crowdfunding project out there. They vet and curate the artists on TipCow. That way someone else doesn’t claim to be your band and take money from your pocket. You must also be able to prove who you are or else they will not add you to the service. Tips can be outright, or parts of specials....

Monoprice Pro Audio Electronic Drum Set

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSWhether you are an up and coming drummer or a weekend warrior, you need a drum set to play and improve. Sometimes an acoustic kit is not feesable where you live. Electronic kits have been dropping in price and there are many to choose from. I take a look at one of the sub $500 kits in the Monoprice Electronic Drum Set. This is the first kit that Monoprice offers. With 5 drums and 3 cymbal triggers along with the module, you can work on your flams and paradiddles without filling the house with sound. The kit sets up in around 40 minutes. You will need a Phillips screwdriver for assembly. The kit comes with a drum key, but the only device that uses it is the bass drum pedal. The pads are single piezo sensor drums. The cymbals are dual...

Keeping Warm with SEV System 8.0 Fleece

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSWith over 19 pockets, the SEV 8.0 fleece is an integrated system for all your extra gadgets you might need at a moments notice. And it keeps you warm on those chilly nights! Those who own SCOTTeVEST clothes know the major advantage: moving wires throughout pockets in the coat so you don’t have a Medusa in your pocket. And it’s not just the headphone cable in the collar. You can store phones, tablets, and even be protected by scanner hackers trying to access your data. The SEV System 8.0 fleece is one of a two coat system you can purchase. Ultimately, both coats will give you 42 pockets to put stuff into. While I don’t have the outer shell coat, the fleece has been more than enough for my winter excursions and travel even outside the US to London and back. Let’s talk what you...

Comparing the iPhone 6s to the 6 – Should I Upgrade?

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSThe new iPhone 6s is a powerful smartphone and can do a lot more. But if you are already on an iPhone 6 contract, you wonder if you should be upgrading to the 6s. I got an iPhone 6S from Verizon Wireless to check out and see if I should wait to upgrade or switch phones now. The Phone The 6s shares a lot from the iPhone 6. Comparing the Default Drum Scene in QSC Touchmix

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSThe QSC TouchMix 16 is a powerful mixer for bands, conferencing and more. When I saw the mixer at NAMM, I was definitely impressed. And looking for a good replacement to my mixer of 8 years, I found it in this product. I wanted to see how easy this was to set up and go. Therefore, I miced up my drums in the basement and plugged the QSC Touchmix in. The only thing I did was set levels to each drum. By plugging in a USB drive, I could record tracks easily. Each track is recorded in 32-bit with a bit rate of 1,411 kbps. That made for a 31 MB file for each track at about 3 minutes. Since I was recording 6 tracks, the end result was 180 MB. This is a ingenious bulb that has a full Android OS inside. Simply screw in the Edison bulb, turn it on and use the lamp as a projector. The first application I thought of was for a restaurant. You could  easily have a menu project onto a table. When you don’t want to see the menu anymore, flip the switch and it’s a regular light bulb. With the app, you could also turn that menu-light into an Internet Connected game system or video watching system. While the family waits for breakfast, they could be watching the latest news projected on the table from the overhead lamp. Most portable lamps could be...
