Geekazine on Wirecast Live

I was a guest on WirecastLive – the live show highlighting Wirecast Users and Live streamers. Host Andrew Haley and I talked about my start in Livestreaming, along with some tech topics. I break out my Google Glass to reminisce about previous live shows I created. We then turned direction and looked at Wirecast 8. We talk about the features of the new software. We also answered questions the audience had about the software, gear, and more. I would like to thank Andrew and Debralee for having me on (and making me look good).

NewTek NDI Connect Spark First Look, Setup in Wirecast

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSIP video can be easy, and difficult at the same time. Especially if you are trying to record or stream 1080p 60fps. In the last year, NewTek has come out with the NDI protocol, which allows you to send video across an IP network with less pixelation and latency. The Connect Spark was released so you can send any camera video signal – from a Go Pro, DSLR, or even a commercial grade camera – over a network to the recording computer, or even a series of monitors. The NDI Connect Spark This device comes with HDMI or 3G-SDI connections, for whatever video system you use. The box itself can be connected to Ethernet, or a WiFi signal (5G Wifi recommended). Two USB ports and a micro-SD card slot are available for recording from the device. The Spark also allows for...

Wirecast 7.6 Adds NDI Support, Allows Adobe Character Animator

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSA long time user of Telestream Wirecast, I was really happy to spend some time in their booth at NAB to learn about 7.6. Since the release of Wirecast 7, they have stepped up the game with cool features that really compete in the live streaming space. And now with incorporating NewTek’s open architecture Netrwork Device Interface (NDI), Wirecast can go in a lot of cool directions. For starters, Wirecast can bring in Adobe Character Animator into a scene. The program allows you to make a 3D character, then use facial recognition to give the animation life. Just like with what Stephen Colbert does with Cartoon Donald Trump. Down the road you will be able to bring an NDI connected camera into a scene. You could have your team live in different parts of the world, and work the Titler Live from...

First Look at Wirecast 7 from Telestream

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSTelestream released version 7 of their popular video software switcher Wirecast today. Along with a new logo, they redesigned some of the basic features to streamline the product. They also improved the software so it will work better on a PC or Mac. I take you though a first look at the new version. What is Wirecast? Wirecast is a video software switcher and layer system. With this software, you can set up scenes to record or stream to your favorite platform (e.g. Facebook or YouTube, Livestream, UStream, etc). You can layer a video with graphics, photos, other videos or one-on-one conversations via Skype or Google Hangouts. There are two versions. Wirecast and Wirecast Pro. The software starts at $495 and you can get Wirecast Here. Changing of the Source Settings   The biggest change is how you set up scenes....

NewTek Open Source NDI Standard for Video Production

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSIn a video production environment, spreading out tasks between computers can help in many different ways. From producing the video for public consumption to creating archive and even monitoring systems. Network Device Interface (NDI) is a standard that can bridge devices together – and you don’t even have to own a Tricaster. While at NAB, I talked with Phillip Nelson of NewTek about this open standard. NDI was announced back in 2015 to communicate with devices over Gigabit Ethernet. A standard that almost all corporate and video production buildings (even home studios) have. The idea is to have one computer send video or other items over to the production machine without having to convert or render. The end result is a reduction in production workflow. Many different programs have already adopted NDI into their systems. You don’t even need NewTek products...

Telestream Wirecast 5 – NAB 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSI stopped by the Telestream booth to find out what is going on with one of my favorite streaming software programs – Wirecast 5. I learned about the plethora of software and updates Telestream has to offer for any broadcaster – from podcast streaming to TV production. One product Telestream was promoting is Switch. this program will give you media playback in multiple media formats, then switch the video to the same format as other video. Switch supprts MOV, MP4, MXF, GXF, MPEG Transport Streams, and even Ultra HD 4k.  We also talked about the updated Wirecast 5 streaming software. With this software you can attach multiple cameras for a switching source, add chromakey events, lower 3rds, audio breaks, and more. Wirecast can send the video to another program, record to a video file, or even stream out to platforms such as...

Paladin S3 Portable Streaming Solution, iPad app – NAB 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSWhen I create some videos, I use streaming software to do it – mainly Wirecast. This is a great way for me to put on layers (such as lower 3rds) and get the content out to you. Paladin has seen what I do and improved on it with the Paladin S3 streaming box. Best part – they also have made portable versions of it. Paladin’s S3 Chasis is a low form factor PC. Inside you can place either an SDI array, or HDMI input solution. You can patch out to monitor, audio, digital audio, USB device, Firewire, eSATA, Ethernet, or wireless solution. The PC box can load any software – Wirecast or Vid Pro – Livestream, uStream, or YouTube – even post production software like Vegas Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, Hit Film, and more. Paladin Portable Solutions Paladin also has solutions...

Day 2 – Streaming, Vocalbooths, Video – NAB 2014

Podcast: EmbedSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Android | RSSI spent day 2 of NAB expo in the lower south hall of LVCC. Before I headed there, I stopped by the NMX lounge to watch Don Baine stream his event live. Andy McCaskey was there, which was a great surprise. I got to talk with him, Rick Calvert and Patti Hoskins from NMX. Lots of big booths and great products to be seen in south hall. I started at Vocal booth where I found out how I can put a soundproof booth into any room and not disturb the neighbors. Guy Coleman mentioned these booths are even used in prisons as one-on-one video conferencing between inmates and lawyers, family, or other visitors. I stopped by the OWC booth as we talked about their new media solution in Jupiter – a SSD array that could fit on a desk or in...
